What is your opinion about self check out counters in supermarkets

Most of the bigger supermarkets here have self check out counters. They've slowly decreased the assisted check out counters as they seem to be cutting down on the workforce.
I like the privacy of a self check out counters and that I can see each price clearly. It takes longer for me and it's annoying when there is an error and you have to wait for assistance from the one person allocated for the 10 counters! I also struggle when I don't have a bag!!
I still use it when I can as it suits me. There is a huge debate as to whether these are annoying or useful.
What is your opinion?
And life is expensive. I spent more than 100 Australian dollars on the stuff you can see at the checkout.

I never use them as it does away with jobs and I don't get an employee discount. So I will not do the work

I prefer using the self-checkout registers so I do not have to deal with stupid people running them. I save time because I am not stupid and I save money because I pay attention to what price gets rung as opposed to what price is marked.

I hate them, I always break them. . . cause a malfunction. I especially hate the ones that talk out loud. I feel like I have to talk back to them.

I find them useful when I only have a few things, but if I have a big order I much prefer going though a regular check out counter.

@pitstop my case, I order straight from the store but have to pay $9 for the service but I do get the groceries the same day,

I do think that it does have it place. While I do favor the help (more for the people who need jobs), I use it and like that the ones around me, talk. So I know the cost and if things scanned right.

If they pay me to ring up my own groceries, fine. If they won't pay me, why should I do the work?

Too me they are only convenient when I have 3-4 items, I get frustrated when its super packed and busy and they have 18 registers but only 2 open and the rest self check out

I like the self checkouts at some supermarkets since I like the idea of checking out my groceries even though I would miss the chat with the cashier.

I like them for quick things, like picking up one or two items. To put a two-week supply of groceries through one? NO.

I hate self checkouts. No matter where I go, if I try to use one, something doesn't ring up to be the right price. Then I get to wait for a customer service person to come and fix it. Besides, I am not on their payroll, nor do they discount my items if I check myself out. I just do not like them at all.

I like using self-checkout counters. It's easy to use and I do not have to queue up to wait for the cashier.
