Well, they are all sick

Half the staff for our room is sick. Most of the other people who are qualified to fill in for them are sick, but that is okay, two of our kids are sick.
I took pity and am riding the bus.
It is February, which used to always seem like the longest month of the year.
Here is a list of the illnesses: respiratory virus, covid, influenza type A, stomach bug, strep . . . that about sums up life at school.
Now it is time to go to work.

It is more because we are all inside, close together, and do not wash our hands enough.

@GardenGerty it is possible, some have lower immune systems. and some have good ones and sometimes those who have good immune systems do not tend to show any symptoms at all but they might be a carriers of the virus

@rakski You are right about that. You can be a carrier and not seem sick at all.

I had two days off last week. One for an appointment for Bob and then had a fever so took the next day off. I had Monday off for an appointment. Maybe I am not getting too close to the germs.

School needs to close until those illnesses are gone. I hope you don't catch anything. Good luck!

One school in our co-op did close for an extra day last week. I have not heard if it helped or not.

@DaddyEvil It gave them a long weekend and so maybe it helped some. If people would not send their kids back too soon when they are sick it would sure help. Sometimes though, it just happens. Our youngest student in our program had strep and influenza A. His mom is a nurse. She kept him out several days. He was feeling better, and did not have a fever, so she let him go to school. Within a half hour of being there his temp was over 100 again. Mom came to get him, double checked his temp and checked his sibling as well. We washed the blankets and things he laid on. He is fine now. Even professionals can make a mistake, I guess.

@GardenGerty I doubt one day would be enough.

I think alot of people get sick because people don't stay home when they may be contagious.

They keep sending out reminders to parents about keeping sick kids home. In our classroom we work really closely with our kids and so get extra exposed. Our custodian says she can tell people (kids) do not wash their hands enough. The do not have to refill the paper towel and soap dispensers and some of the trash cans look hardly used. Not good.

I get my flu shots and covid shots, and hope to avoid the worst of any of this. Often when I get sick it turns out to be a "rinovirus", just the common cold.

@RebeccasFarm One of my coworkers has been out about ten days. She does get sicker and more often because her thyroid is not right.

They probably cannot afford the time off, and most of the people In my group cannot afford it, but are having to take it off. I still have a handful of days left. Saving them for Bob's eye surgery. But if I had a fever or stomach bug symptoms I would not come in to work.

@andriaperry We have one co worker who did come back. Then she mentioned she was having diarrhea and the school nurse told her to go home. She is worried about her time off, and should be, because the school has required her to take time off twice since she started this fall. This is the same dingbat I quit over a few years ago.

It's the same here in our school. Many children are falling sick. It's mostly the seasonal flu and the sudden change in weather.

@GardenGerty Yes, same here. And these days the flu and weakness stays longer than earlier days.
I hope that people are feeling better at you end.

I’m sorry, sickness in schools spreads so fast. Quite a few of our schools here had a deep cleaning like they did during COVID, to cut down on illness if possible. Our hospitals are requiring visitors and staff to wear masks, and are limiting visitors. So much sickness.

Before we knew about Covid, one of our nearby schools proactively closed and had their HVAC duct work cleaned. We should have those kinds of things done as routine maintenance, we might stay healthier.

I am using today to rest a lot. We eat healthy in our house and that is also helpful. Our school is not too big, but when you are all inside you share a lot of germs.

When people have to be inside and too close it is easy for them to get sick.

I was off with a low fever last week, but I went to bed, rested, and drank plenty of water. I did not get really sick. I am a lucky one, I guess.

I have a lot of aches and pains, but no fever. Today is a snow day and I have slept a lot. Riding the bus and the cold weather made me sick.
