Domestic violence and Indian male suicides

Recently a BJP MP advocated domestic violence to prevent the frequent male suicides taking place in India. Isn't it something bizarre? Indian women had been the victim of domestic violence since years. Many have lost their lives and the root cause is dowry. Some Indian guys and their families marry to get a maid at waiting with security( dowry). Some women protest after marriage to domestic violence and take a divorce and some keep suffering and at times meet death. Some women nowadays wicked enough to retaliate with mental or physical torture and push their husbands to suicide. Now that doesn't become a plea to encourage domestic violence. A man who hasn't got the money to support a social marriage can go for court marriage or whichever means is cheaper, like marrying in the temple. What do you think?

It is shameful indeed and will not stop unless the youngsters take a strong stance. Men stop taking dowry and women stop giving dowry.

It's awful indeed. Awareness among youngsters has to be created.

In spite of new laws in many countries, domestic violence is not ending. I have heard for decades about marriage in India and it seems that men there are not prepared for a marriage like the ones they have in other countries. I´m very sorry about those terrible endings.
In my country dowry is not used and neither is an arranged marriage. But now men are not the only supporters in a family either. Still violence and deaths (mostly by men) are still occurring.

In India working women are treated as an investment by some husband's and his family. They take her income and yet ill treat her. I agree there are some bad women who abuse their husband.

@marguicha Changes had to be initiated by the youngsters themselves. Women better stay single than giving dowry.

@aninditasen It's a bad situation all round. These customs can take a very long time to change.

@JudyEv The situation will improve when the bride stop marrying men who ask for dowry and men stop asking for dowry.

Bad in-laws will never stop violence. It's the victim who has to protest and come out of it.

i remember that actress that starred in balika vadhu (first tv indian series in our country), she took her own life because the pressure from her husband's family about the dowry was too much. i wish they stop with this dowry already.

Yes, women in states like Rajasthan, Punjab, UP and Coastal Odisha still suffer from the curse of dowry.

@grenery8 Marriage can't be blamed here. It's the custom. In India states like Gujarat and Karnataka don't have any dowry system.

@aninditasen it seems the message is not to get married if these things are happening.

@allknowing An independent woman doesn't need support but a dependent woman does. India needs to create more sustainable jobs.

The girls family should stand by her even after marriage. Some leave their daughter in the lurch to suffer. Torture increases when there's no opposition.

I am totally up for a court marriage. I don't see the point in people taking loans for social marriage! I mean what is wedding about? It's about the bride and the groom and not showoff !

You are right. If all youngsters thought that way things would have been better.

Women facing domestic violence after marriage or after getting into relationship is not something new or of any news value. Do not get me wrong. I have empathy for the women and the laws needs to be strengthened further according to current needs of society for women facing such hardships. But for media , there is no new value of reporting women dying of domestic violence unless there is some elements which can cause interest. However, in case of men, it has news value as it rare and uncommon for now. Unfortunately , laws have been used in different ways and justice at time gets delayed or denied. Perhaps a prenuptial agreement before any relationship could help resolve some if not all of the issues.

Let women stop getting married in a family where they demand dowry and their family should support the cause.
