It's nice but cold

I started the new part of my job today, truck day. The stock manager, that's training me for the area, told me to go ahead and break down my pallets and she come show me how they do it here. At first she talked so fast, and with her accent, it was hard to keep up. However, as soon as she left I looked around and started stocking. My help came in and then items got put away faster. I pulled items that will expire, I have a second shift coming and will tell him what to pull before he leaves tonight. My stock was put away in just a few hours, now I'm restocking what's low. Although I will continue to be a customer service manager, I'm doing this for more hours and pay a couple times a week. The General manager said she didn't want to put me in the back because I have gotten the wild kids, and cashiers, under control... No one has been able to do that. So.... Oh... An old employee from my last job came by looking for work, said I knew how it was down there. Well I don't hire and fire here, I wouldn't hire him anyway because he is not a good employee. Well, back to work, I've been on my hour break. How's everyone doing today?

Why is he not a good employee?

Things are going fine with me. I still can't see well enough to drive but my brother said he'd pick up our groceries this afternoon and bring them to us. Nothing else happening here. I'm glad you're getting more hours/pay but am wondering if the General Manager will let you keep working in the back. I didn't do the hiring/firing at Walmart but, when I saw a couple of people come in for interviews that I KNEW weren't good employees, I let management know... I certainly didn't want to be the one stuck working with them again!

You have the inside scoop: what happens to the expired items? Are they returned back to where they came from? Does any of the stuff go food banks?

That's what happened with canned and boxed stuff at Walmart. They wanted the store credit. Fresh produce and expired meats/milk... etc, were dumped into the crusher. Nothing was given to food banks. Walmart was afraid someone would get sick and they'd be sued if anyone ate anything they didn't buy.

@DaddyEvil I understand but wish there was a way to feed people with the food. One of my memories of visiting Missouri that was sad was the poverty. Some of the homes looked like people were poor. There was at least one trailer set up as a store that sold dented cans and such.

I can understand why she didn’t want to put you outback but for your pay increase I’m glad she did. Will you mention to your boss that hiring that guy who wasn’t a good employee won’t be a smart idea?

Sounds like a productive day! I hope the old employee won't be hired then. Yesterday I was forced to go out to attend classes, today I can rest and I'm glad tomorrow is Saturday as I need to buy groceries but waiting for my parents.
