Protein Powder Pancakes

Protein powder can act as flour, even if many suggest to replace only a fraction of the flour with the powder.
Yet I'm not a machine that executes a program, I'm a human born to experiment and make mistakes, and "using protein powder only" was not one.
My first attempt ended in slightly burnt pancakes, and this time, well, the middle appears to be undercooked. I was a little impatient, but honestly? I like them this way.
The soft center felt like a creamy filling!
Beetroot is what gave that nice pink color, then I used vanilla vegan protein powder. The pancakes themselves aren't vegan because I added milk and egg whites.
They might not be perfect but I was proud of what I made, they look so cute.
What else? I don't think I'll make pancakes ever again unless I get a better pan. It would be great to have that pancake griddle with molds.
Anyway, here are some nuggets of wisdom I gathered during my experience:
- keep the flame loooow;
- thick batter > thin batter;
- find something to do while waiting for pancakes to cook;
- if you add baking powder, let the batter rest for some minutes.

Looks like you have produced holistic healthy pancakes. How was the taste?

@allknowing The first bites are always great, then the taste of the sweetener in the protein powder takes over and it makes me want to eat less, which is good I guess.
But that can be avoided by getting flavorless protein powder.

@allknowing Gotta buy the flavorless protein but have to finish the one I have first, or get most of it out of the way.

@wolfgirl569 I see, have you ever tried any special flour that is not protein powder for pancakes instead?

@somewitch Hey, it works! I bet if you squeezed some strawberries into mix you would get red! And then use the strawberries for topping so not wasted.

@kareng Thanks! I wish I had a heart-shaped mold, I thought of pink because we're like in the month of love, but that's all I could get... some pink.

@kareng Yes! I think strawberries would have worked too but they're more expensive and likely to be frozen this time of the year. Would surely give them a try this late spring, as long as I have the special pan/griddle too.

@snowy22315 Thanks! I'll have everything but shakes. I'm so fed up with shakes and I prefer munching my calories than drinking them anyway.

Pretty likes pancakes. I'll tell her about your experiment. We have cans and cans of protein powder.

@somewitch I've never used protein powder and what we have was left by a former roommate. Pretty may have tried it but must not have been thrilled with it or it wouldn't still be here. She just didn't want to pitch it out.

@DaddyEvil I hope the protein powder tastes good because turning it into pancakes won't hide the flavor. But they're more interesting than the usual shake or smoothie.

@somewitch true, you have to test which fire will work on the pancake better

@rakski Thanks, glad you think so. It wasn't easy with a simple plan, even if non-stick I still had to add oil but right before pouring the batter or the pancakes would burn. And generally it takes so much time to cook because flame has to be low and one cake at a time.

@rakski Yes, the intensity and timing as well. I think they wouldn't have minded more cooking.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX It takes a lot of patience but it's doable. Keep in mind each protein powder has a different "absorbency" so the quantity of liquid that is required varies a lot, even within the same type (whey, casein, plant-based etc). Vegan is very "thirsty", for example.
