Poor Man's Gatorade! How The Horse has saved $20 over the past two weeks.

I drink fluids often, and some of them are more healthy than others. Among my favorites is Scotch whiskey, which I tend to drink after a day of teaching at Guitar Center. And then there is coffee, which I drink pretty much every morning. Still another is Gatorade, which keeps me hydrated. I buy maybe four bottles a week. Recently, a friend gifted me about 30 lemons from his lemon tree. Cha-ching! I started keeping my empty Gatorade Bottles and making poor man's Gatorade. I already had brown sugar here, so I added some lemon juice and brown sugar to my tap water, replaced the cap (no cap failures so far) and shook vigorously. Then I added a pinch of salt. It tastes good and heeps my from getting leg cramps at night. Do you have any top secret recipes that positively affect your life and save you Big Bucks?

I bought some Dijon mustard recently. It's one of the top secret ingredients in my dad's most excellent salad dressing. But I'm using it on some ham.

We make Gatorade similar to that at home but only during the Summer. I'm glad it's saving you money.

@DaddyEvil Wheee!. Actually, I spent some of my savings on Dijon mustard, a family tradition and a bit of a luxury.

I have an entire lemon tree in my garden and just bought 4 bottles of Gatorade as the supermarket has them 'on sale'. After reading your post, I'm kicking myself for wasting money. I love you, Lemon Tree (Thanks to The Horse)

That's a great way to save $$. I don't like Gatorade because it is too salty! I often get out the lemon water. Pickle juice is also good for leg cramps!

@kareng Interesting. I wonder what it is about pickle juice. I had thought it was just the salt, along with water.

@TheHorse Plain water, especially tap water can make me sick, so I don't drink it.

I try to stay hydrated, but plain old water bores me a bit.

I have been known to make home made creamer for hubby and will do it again in the future. Right now I am cooking the bare minimum. The bit of salt and the sugar and probably potassium from the lemons should do the trick. I want to make a blueberry lemon quick bread for hubby. Cooking at home saves money, so we do that a lot.

@TheHorse I like the creative part, I like the eating part. I do not like the dirty dishes required to do it right.

No such recipes in terms of money saving. However I have seen that eating in moderation is the best for me, health wise. May be it saves some money as well but I do not keep track. Some days I do save in some ways when instead of Ordering Tea Online, I make some efforts and make the tea at home. This is much more economical. Is dehydration a big factor in leg cramps?

That sounds a great drink. What stops the cramps? The lemon? Or what is in Gatorade that you think stops the cramps? I've never drunk Gatorade. To me, it seems just another soft drink but I guess it's more than that.
