Enjoyed a Break in Weather to Walk the Beach

It was cold and windy on the shore yesterday, but the sun popped out and was so beautiful. I loved walking for my exercise and taking lovely photos. The photo here is one I took before heading back to my truck. The beach is only three blocks from the house and walking distance, but I drove since you can drive onto the beach and I like to go further down. The Point Brown Peninsula was used by local tribes for trading before settlers came here. We have several areas named after the first settlers, like Damon Point. Ocean Shores is still relatively new compared to other small towns. The Ocean Shores development Corp bought the land in the 1960's, with the first hotel built in 1961. In the early 1960's, a ship named SS Catala, was used as a hotel for fisherman in the area. Some of you my age may remember Pat Boone, a famous singer. He promoted the growth of Ocean Shores with golf tournaments. This city is like one giant HOA. There is one way in and out, has a lot of fees including an ambulance fee added to the water bill and every house owner pays a community center fee whether they use it or not. The first Monday of each month the tsunami siren goes off and tells residence and guest where to go if a tsunami is coming. The problem with the siren and speaker, you can't hear it well in town. When I hosted in the state park two miles outside of Ocean Shores, it was very loud and clear. In the winter, businesses are slow but come late spring and through summer, it's very busy here. Fourth of July is crazy with people from a week before to a week after with all setting off fireworks on the beach. Sadly, the day after the 4th, volunteers take out tons of trash left behind. I'll be moving more inland in about two to three months. I'll still be within 24 miles of the ocean and still in the forest. My home view will change from ocean beach to the Willapa River. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. Doing anything fun?

That's a lovely picture. Gorgeous!! Thank you for sharing. I too love walking on the beach and wet sand. I wish that there was a beach close by and I could go there frequently on weekends. But the closest ones are also too far to drive and we go there only in long weekends or vacations.

I'm just a couple blocks. It's so windy and cold on this beach though. I don't go as often as I'd like.

@noni1959 I know. It happens with most of us. We don't frequently visit the local beauties and destination.

Thank you. I'm just a couple blocks right now. When we get moved, we'll still be close. I like the forest and ocean being so close.

@RebeccasFarm No, I moved to Washington in March of 2023. First to the desert side and now at the western coastal side. I was hosting in state parks for both Oregon and Washington but taking a break now.

The beach view is nice but so is a river view and I never get tired of forests. I hope you're doing okay and avoiding all the different illnesses going around right now.

@DaddyEvil Thank you. I'm glad you are fine. There are so many getting sick so I'm trying to avoid going to crowded places. I know all it takes is one person but it still worries me. I'm going to get into bed earlier tonight.

We moved from Prosser last year and was right on the Yakima river. I think I did a post with a photo of the river in our prior backyard with the tree lit up orange from the sun. We'll be across from the Willapa river by summer. All forest still. I'm OK. Had the tummy flu and then a slight head cold. I hope you are doing well.

It has it's nice moments. We get a lot of marine layer that eats at metal so cars rust faster. I can hear the ocean outside even with it raining. It's a nice sound to hear at night.

@MarieCoyle I remember going to Maui and opening the sliding doors on the balcony and listen all night. The best sleep for sure! I hear the waves here through the closed windows. It's so cold out right now. Sure wish I could open them.

@noni1959 One of my favorite things on vacations in my past was to get hotels on the beach with a balcony door or window, that I could hear the waves crashing all night long. Best sleep ever!

Being only three blocks from the beach sounds amazing and it sure looks beautiful. Why do you plan to move farther inland?

It's really nice but we are trying to get the property finished and move more inland by May. Hopefully. So many snags and the weather isn't helping.

Thanks for such an interesting post. I remember Pat Booone well. It's a bit sad that some may have never heard of him.
