A small contribution to a beautiful quilt

We visited old friends today. We lived within a mile or two of each other in Donnybrook and now we all live in the suburbs of Perth.
My friend is a great quilter and in the photo you can see one of her many quilts. I asked Vince to take a photo of this one as it’s made up of pieces of doyleys, table-cloths etc. On the left edge of the quilt is some pink crochet which is part of a doyley I crocheted many years ago.
There are several other parts of doyleys which I gave to my friend. There is also parts of work that she did and her mother did.
She had four or five quilts displayed on a type of ladder in her lounge room. It was a great way to be able to enjoy the quilts rather than have them tucked away in a box.

What a lovely quilt.
I see the pink doily that you mentioned, and I see another part of a pink doily up near the top, and I wondered if that was a work of art from you as well.
I love those doilies made from crochet cotton, my grandmother used to make stuff out of that.
She made a large bed cover out of one with sweet hearts all alone 3 sides of it, all but the top.
I eventually inherited it from their downsizing and it being passed to this person and then that person.
The last that I saw of it, our son has it on his spare room bed.

That crochet cotton last for years and years as you well know. Both pink portions are from the same doyley. There is a beige (ecru in crochet parlance) to the right and slightly lower than the pink on the left. That is one of mine too and the doyley directly above is one of my mother's.

Yes, such nice handwork is good to display and enjoy. I recognize some the embroidery patterns as being like some my mom and others in the family did.

The pink pattern is called the 'pineapple' pattern and is quite common.

It is a good use for such pieces. My friend has done some really beautiful work. Here is one she did for my birthday.

Doyleys (doilys) are small pieces of crochet or needlework. 'Duchess sets' used to be popular. These were made up of a slightly larger piece and two smaller ones and would have put on a dressing table to look decorative and I guess to protect the surface of the furniture. I have a couple of small ones on the piano with photo frames sitting on them.

It's a good use of pretty items that can't really be used for anything.

I've never seen such a unique quilt . Its beautiful and easy to see how much creativity and love was put into making it.

@JudyEv my aunt loved to quilt but it's not a talent I was able to conquer. I didn't have the patience

@Marilynda1225 I didn't have the patience either and I'm not a good sewer.

Goodness. That is one cute quilt. I had a white quilt with red and blue flower embroidery a few years back, but I have no idea where it went. Oh well.

@JudyEv Yes, I gave up finding it long time ago. ADHD is the culprit in this case.
