No More Mobile Phones ?

Those who are a bit older will remember the phone booth and sometimes having to stand in line just to make a simple phone call. Next we moved on to the mobile phone which has gone through several upgrades during the decades it has been in use. So what next? According to Mark Zuckenberg( Facebook founder) , light weight smart glasses will replace smartphones. Big tech companies like Meta and Apple are already investing billions in this project. When we leave home, there are certain items we must take with us, like car keys ( if we drive), house keys, cash or card - and of course, our mobile phone. Now it is hard to imagine leaving my phone behind and instead , donning a pair of glasses. It is hard to imagine a world where 9 out of 10 persons l meet on the street are wearing glasses and probably texting as they walk along. " Zuckenberg envisions a world where people interact with digital content without ever needing to pull a device out of their pocket. Instead everything will be seamlessly displayed through smart glasses.". What would be your preference ? Do you care for the idea of glasses as a substitute for your mobile phone? I remember pay phones though I never had to use one. I always have my phone and I imagine the next upgrade to the glasses will be like the movie Total Recall where the phone is actually in your hand, As for glasses to replace my phone...well I can't keep track of my prescription glasses so I doubt that this would help me at all lol

I don't think l have watched that movie. I will look for it on Youtube. I am sure there are people who will find adjusting to that new technology troublesome. Then what about the cost. ?

@Kandae11 Look for the new one with Jessica Biel and Collin Pharell. New tech is always expensive when it comes out at first then it depends on how main stream it becomes

I somehow feel, those fixed line telephones will comeback yet again....people will get bored of too much disturbances caused by smartphones...

I feel like this society is going further away from "real" social interaction. Eye contact is so important to me when socializing . . . especially when talking to someone, or even to pass by someone just to nod a hello. People are so distracted as it is . . . do we really need to be hooked up to the digital world at all times? Those glasses are a no for me.

That is exactly my point - eye contact is so very important. It would be kind of similar to how people looked during the covid pandemic when everyone wore masks.

I doubt that he's right, in my opinion it will probably be some kind of either wrist device or an ear device, glasses become uncomfortable sometimes, I know because I've worn glasses all my life.

I was wondering about that. So many people already wear prescription glasses - which means the smart glasses will be kept in your purse or pocket - just like the mobile phone.

I've also heard that smart glasses are going to replace mobile phones. But I do not like wearing glasses all the time.

I suppose it can be kept in the pocket or handbag at times - then how different is it from your mobile phone. If it is worn most of the time there would be no direct eye contact. You won't know what someone is thinking or if they are looking at you on the sly.

I'm old enough to remember phone booths. Now it's hard to imagine having to find one to call someone. I don't think glasses as a substitute for a mobile phone would be something I'd want. I also think it would be annoying to have to wear glasses to do everything you can do with your mobile phone,

That is terrifying. Sometimes I wish we could go back to the boring yet indestructible Nokia. You know the one. It’s like a brick in your pocket. The only way to get any entertainment out of it was to scroll through the five ringtones you were given. Still, you dropped it off the balcony and it was still good after falling 50 feet. It could land on its screen and nothing would happen. You drop an iPhone off your bed and it falls on the carpet and shatters. Android isn’t much better.
