I just got back home from my doctor's appointment about ten minutes ago with the results. Things are not looking good, but the diagnosis wasn't something I expected. I was diagnosed with a condition called pleurisy and that is a type of inflammation around the chest cavity which was causing sharp chest pains and I mistook that for heart problems when it was actually my chest cavity and my lungs causing me trouble. My doctor prescribed me with antibiotics and told me to be back in two weeks for another checkup.
According to the doctor, it should've been checked out immediately, but I didn't think it was that serious so I loitered for about a year when I should've been on antibiotics as soon as possible. He assures me that I will get better in two to four weeks, but in case it worsens, we are going to do two checkups. The first one is in two weeks and the second one is another two weeks later.
So it wasn't one of the A's I was thinking I had - Angina, Arrhythmia, Atherosclerosis. It was a condition called pleurisy affecting both my chest cavity and my lungs.
Just thought I would share a follow up of my previous post. I will get some rest now.

Yes, I ignored it for nothing. It would've been long gone by now according to the doctor.

@lilacskies At least it wasn't something more serious. I can understand you being scared it could be your heart. My mother and sister both contracted conjestive heart failure. I was adopted, so I doudged that bullett. But, I know how you feel. I recieved a TBI (traumatic brain injury) at the age of 3 months. So, I've been dealing with the joys that come with that. In addation, I'm my husband's full-time and only caregiver following his stroke.

@kaylachan Yes, I was expecting something to be seriously wrong with my heart so like you, I also dodged a bullet. I'm so sorry to hear about your traumatic brain injury and you were only 3 months at that? That is so heartbreaking. You are going through so much. Stay strong and don't give up! I'm trying to take my own advice myself.

Thank you. I hope so. I'm going back two weeks later to see if the antibiotics got rid of it for good. I'll see how it goes.

Yes, it is really painful, but I ignored it because I thought it was just one more pain for me to bear like my chronic pain. I thought my chronic pain had reached my heart. That was my plan today, but my sister-in-law derailed my plans. I am home now though resting. I sure will. Thank you.

Why are you saying not looking good? Pleurisy is easily cured with antibiotics. You my dear are taking thriftiness too far..Pleurisy is extremely painful, I had it once before, and I would think not treating it would be life threatening. ![](/Content/images/emotes/sad.gif)

@lilacskies Absolutely! You were lucky it didn't go into full blown pneumonia. I don't know how you could stand the pain.

@snowy22315 Yes, it could be way worse. I need to be more positive. I have chronic pain that is here to stay so when the chest pain came my way, I thought oh more pain.

I know. I will get better in two weeks or so. I need to see my doctor again to update about my progress after taking my antibiotics for the next two weeks. I'll see how it goes. I should've had this checked out last year.

Ouch. I can’t imagine how you endured that pain for that long. I’m thankful it’s “just” pleurisy as opposed to something more drastic, but ouch….just reading this makes me hurt. Get well quickly. ![](/Content/images/emotes/hugs.gif)

Yes, I thought my chronic pain extended to my chest so I loitered for a year before I finally got a proper checkup for my chest. Thank you so much! ![](/Content/images/emotes/hugs.gif)

It can sure feel like a heart attack. I've had it off and on for years. I just drink something cold and the pain goes away. When I was seen by a doctor the first time it happened I wasn't given antibiotics. It just comes occasionally and I deal with it.

Better late than never. Now that you are under a doctor;s care you should get your health back soon.
Take care.
