Saving 50% sealed the deal

I went to Bloomingdale’s yesterday to get something for my mom as her birthday is coming up. While there I went to the handbag department just to browse and maybe see if there is a wristlet I can get her. I didn’t find any there but I noticed a small Michael Kors handbag. It really caught my eye. I picked it up, looked it over, and fell in love with it. I really wanted to get it. I thought it would make for a great present. But then I wasn’t sure I’d be able to part with it if I bought it. I’d end up keeping it for myself. However, because I already have enough handbags, I put it down. I wasn’t going to get it. It was a want and not a need. Before leaving the department I decided to look at the price tag out of curiosity. The handbag was on sale at 50% off. I don’t remember the exact amount but it was around $147 (+tax). That sealed the deal. There was no way I’d be leaving the store without it. I left the store feeling very happy. I saved a lot of money. And whatever points in loyallist rewards I earned from this purchase resulted in a total of 5,000 points, which gave me $25 to spend on anything at the store. With $125 earned earlier I now have a total of $150 in loyallist rewards to use toward future purchases. When I got home, I realized that I could have used the $125 in rewards when making the handbag purchase. In the end, it would have cost me under $50, which would have been a steal. Oh well. I can always use it toward something else. I have plenty of time to redeem the money. Now I’m still left without a present for my mom. I have to keep looking. In case I don’t find anything perhaps I can gift her the handbag. On second thought, I’d rather not. Plus, hubby says it’s not good to do that. Doesn’t make the gift personal.
