Safety cots - are they still around?

I don’t know anyone with a small baby. Are these safety cots still in use? Our boys had one. The closed-in cot meant they couldn’t fall out of bed and the flywire kept the mosquitoes at bay. I remember ours having teddies and toys in it to hopefully keep the child amused for a little while before they started yelling for Mum to ‘come and get me out of here!’ Are these still around? I could google I guess but I’m too lazy.

I think they are. I mean home births are still around, so why not something as simple as a safety cot despite the modern times?

The babies wouldn't be able to fall out of bed in these.

I'm surprised really. I thought maybe they were a universal thing.

Here kids sleep in cradles. We had one that was used even for mother's grand kids - lasting several years.

What do they sleep in once they're too big for a cradle?

That brings back memories! ?? Those enclosed cots were such a practical idea—keeping little ones safe while giving parents a few extra minutes of peace before the 'come get me!' cries started. ?? I’m not sure how common they are these days, but I’d guess modern baby gear has all sorts of updates. Maybe they’ve been replaced with fancy bassinets and high-tech baby monitors? ?? Now I’m curious too! Hopefully, someone here knows. ??"

I guess keeping mosquitoes away from the babies/toddlers was important in Australia.

I don't know but since parents can't spank their brats anymore, they probably can't put them in a little prison cell like that either.

I have not seen any cribs with the fly mesh protection like that. But bugs are not really a problem in our area. Because of our weather, they are really just seasonal bugs.

It seems they're not at all common in other parts of the world.

I've never seen anything like that before... But, who knows what parents use nowadays. (I don't know anyone with little kids anymore.)

It seems no-one has seen these. Isn't that interesting? I wonder if it's just an Australian thing.

@JudyEv It is interesting... Can you explain why most people in the US have screen wire over our windows and screen doors but those aren't common in the rest of the world? We don't like bugs in our house but other places don't mind mosquitos eating them alive or bugs flying in their homes. I've never understood that. Maybe that's why we in the US have never seen a crib like that? I don't know.

@DaddyEvil Virtually all houses here have flyscreen doors and flyscreens on the windows. In some cases the mesh is really solid and acts as a security screen as well.
