Do you do jobs around the house that other people could have done?

Do you do jobs that you don’t really need to do, just because you can’t bear the way other people do it or the time they take to get around to it? I know I do this, especially with the laundry. If my partner does it, then when he hangs the clothes up to dry he hangs things like shirts and trousers upside-down - he believes they dry faster that way. Well maybe they do (I don’t think it makes much difference), and I don’t care if he does that with his own clothes, but I don’t like hanging mine that way because it makes things like collars and pockets sit all wrong when they are dry! He also doesn’t bother to shake out the creases at all, if things like socks and pants come out all bundled up and twisted, he just pegs them up that way Consequently I find myself rushing to get to the machine first so I can do it the way I want! Then when it comes to putting the dry things away, whoever does it has to work out what belongs to whom and then share them out accordingly. If he does it he leaves me a pile of my clothes to deal with, puts away his stuff and puts away Little One’s stuff but leaves a pile of Big One’s clothes on a chair outside her door. Now I know she’s plenty old enough to put her own things away, and she says she wants to do it and doesn’t want me doing it – but the thing is she just doesn’t, and the heap of clean clothes will just stay there on the chair, and even get added to, for weeks! It’s right at the top of the stairs too so I see it every time I go upstairs and I literally can’t bear to be looking at it, so after a few days I would just snap and put everything away. Now I don’t even let it get to that stage, I just wait until she’s out and then put all her clean things away when she isn’t there to tell me not to and to insist she IS going to do it, eventually Do you find yourself doing things like this? I used to do all the laundry but Pretty started doing her own after I kept asking her to sort it when she put it into the different laundry baskets by the machine. (She'd put towels and sheets together and her undies in with my jeans. ) When I dried the laundry, I'd call for her to come and get her clothes and put them away. I finally insisted she keep her bedroom door closed because she'd just throw the clean clothes in a pile on the floor. I wash the dishes because she won't, even if I'm sick... I usually have to ask for her to bring them out of her bedroom. Then have to set them to soak for a while before I can wash them. (She claims washing dishes is "my job"... I've yet to figure out what her job is here at the house.)

@Fleura I've tried that. It doesn't work. One of these days I won't be able to do the stuff I do here and she'll have to do it. *shrug*

@DaddyEvil You're right, I guess in due course it will become her job.

No one else here (except ghosts and bugs) so I HAVE to do everything myself (because ghosts only play tricks and bugs don't care).

@Fleura I want it done by magic, complete with a keeping spell so it stays that way.

I live alone and do everything on my home - except of course if a centipede gets in the house and l would need my nephew to kill it.

Absolutely! It is sometimes easier and less stressful to do things yourself rather than depending on others or watching them do things. It could drive you crazy especially if the works are not done properly. The laundry struggle is real and relatable – we all want to take over and have things done properly. I can also understand your frustration seeing the pile of clothes outside the door. I definitely do these chores myself and if someone does it and I have confidence in the person, I let them do. Else I like to get things done. Sometimes, we get overwhelmed with the number of things but then peace of mind is worth the extra effort and time. Take care!

I live alone but a lady comes once a week to help me with the house. Yet everything about cooking is done by me. I like everything cleaner than most people do.

When my kids got big enough I stopped doing that for them. She knows you will do it.

This happens here too. Just yesterday, three of us were talking about men hanging out washing. One hangs things in pairs; the other hangs knickers by the side seam and other things any old which way, and neither 'flips' towels, etc. I didn't contribute too much as Vince rarely hangs out anything anyway. Mostly I put things away myself (so it's done 'properly'). If I dig my toes in and refuse to put his clothes away or whatever, I end up feeling very petty. There is only two of us; we're not exactly busy so for the sake of peace I just do stuff. lol

I live in a orphaned children's home but we endeavour to live like a family. House work is divided among the teenage boys and girls but sometimes I help in the kitchen, like warming the milk , keeping the house clean, watering the flower plants and so on .

I tend to walk around the house blindly pretending not to see anything out the order that needs to be addressed.
