A doll's house to die for

This exquisite dolls’ house was in the Collie Museum that we visited recently. Isn’t it lovely? The ‘doors’ that have been opened to reveal the inside have windows with lace curtains. Everything is so tiny. I have a friend who is buying kits and making miniature ‘scenes’ although not a full dolls’ house. I didn’t know you could do this but I wasn’t tempted to go looking for kits for myself. I have enough ‘stuff’ lying around. I tried to take close-ups of individual rooms but hopefully you can see some of the detail here.

I always liked doll houses. Dolls, not so much. They creep me out. Puppets and clowns too.

I know others who can't stand clowns. It surprises me a bit but everyone's different.

@JudyEv Dolls, clowns, puppets. Feels like they are alive, staring at me, and waiting for me to leave the room or sleep so they can walk around in peace. Yikes!

@JudyEv I used to know somebody who's hobby was doll houses. I saw a couple of creations. I don't remember though if he bought or made all the little pieces

Some of the items are so tiny. But all are to scale.

Photos aren't much good if they don't show what you want them to show.

That is such a lovely detailed doll house. I remember I did not have an actual dollhouse, but would use my double bed as the entire house. I fashioned furniture from small boxes and items that I would find around the house. I remember having a little square box from pressed foundation powder of my mother's for the television, and it was a huge tv and I remember thinking how lucky my doll was to have such a nice big tv.

I had several stuffed horses and would make stables for them out of cardboard boxes. lol That was a lucky doll indeed.

@JudyEv Harper loves horses and treats them like Willow treats her baby dolls. Maybe a future vet in the family.

@Juliaacv That could well be. Isn't it interesting how some things appeal to some children when there seems no logical reason for it.

Hmm.. nice big chimney but no fireplaces... My tin dollhouse has 2 fireplaces (painted on the walls) but it lost the chimney long ago.

@JudyEv I noticed that later. I thought it was a bookshelf though. (Can you tell I like books? )

There seems to be a fireplace in the room lower left. It looks like it might be painted on too.

This is very lovely. Long time ago I saw a personal miniature scenes display. It's a personal hobby but it's quite amazing.

@JudyEv Long time ago I ever thought about DIY it, but I might not be so skillful and I gave it up. I have many hobbies and it's better for me to try something else and appreciate others' masterpieces

I was very intrigued with my friend's miniatures. I was almost tempted to buy one for myself.

I would have loved this as a kid! My dad found a trashed metal dollhouse like this and brought it home for me . . . but there was absolutely nothing in or on it like this. I have seen such "kits" . . . some are quite intricate - but yah, I need to work on my own house first .

It's good to have a hobby. I used to collect Beswick china horses but I have enough now and am wondering what will happen to them when I die.

That is simply amazing. Too detailed for my poor old hands, but kudos to the people who make them.

If it made any sense I would even love to have such a house to rearrange even now, I love all kinds of doll houses,

@JudyEv you're right! I bet it would be fun to start from scratch and create your own dollhouse. I don't have the patience now but just the idea is intriguing
