I was remembering when our grandson Nathan was three years old and had major back surgery. He was a preemie (30 months) and only weighed 2 1/2 pounds at birth. He was a fighter and came home at 5 weeks. When he was a baby, his mama Rachel noticed he had a tiny dimple at the base of his tail bone. His Pediatrician ordered lots of tests and scans. Not long after this is when Rachel died of an unexpected massive heart attack. So his dad, our son Robert, and I took Nathan to all the checkups and scans, some of which we'd never even heard of. He was being seen at the Children's Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC. We learned he had a very mild case of Spina Bifida and his spinal cord was attached to something and needed surgery. It was called a tethered cord. The operation was done by the head surgeon there. We saw God's intervention. If Rachel had not noticed that tiny hole, the condition would have damaged his kidney function and his ability to walk. The surgery went well and were told to keep him as still as possible for a while. Nathan was a little monkey and despite our efforts, he was running, jumping, and doing flips without a moment of trouble. He healed wonderfully and you'd never know that now at 21, he's perfectly healthy. There are so many instances of God's merciful intervention in our family, but those are for another post.

@1creekgirl Yes, it would have been a different life, but between your faith and your love for him and each other, you would have made it work.

It would have been so tragic if he had been paralyzed.
