Why? Because we have wild crazy winds, sleet, freezing rain, ice pellets...and maybe a bit of snow later. Tomorrow for a little while it will be above freezing and of course will melt some of it, but then it will freeze back up and not thaw out for days. Of course, I would rather have snow instead, it's a lot easier to get around with just snow.
Today was a day to cook since we were home. I made split pea with ham soup, pulled pork BBQ,. and marinara for lasagna sometime soon. The son asked for the pulled pork and he loved it. I wanted the split pea soup, it was so good and hit the spot on this icy day. I ate mine with some homemade cornbread, my favorite with beans and lentils.
I packaged up the pulled pork into containers for the freezer except for one, and some of the soup will go in the freezer, too. Soup is a go-to for us in the winter.
Did you cook today?

I don't think I have ever eaten a pizza from Walmart. Did they make it there, or was it frozen, or? Just curious.

We generally just make ours at home from scratch. I have regular and very small pizza pans, the small are perfect for what people call personal pan pizzas. My son loves those, and they are very convenient to grab out of the freezer. We like pizza.

It's all packaged and put away, some in freezer, etc. now. Got the dishes all done from all of that...I truly enjoyed that soup, I was so hungry for it. Put away a quart of it for my daughter, it's one of her favorites. We swap homemade soups back and forth all the time, it's fun!

Since they moved back up here a few years ago, we have really enjoyed our time together and are always sharing or swapping. We truly are happy to have each other close by at long last! I wish yours did, too.

No, not really. I heated up something in the microwave, but nothing earth-shattering.

I enjoy cooking, and I like my cooking better than ready-made foods...we very rarely go out to eat.

The pulled pork sounds delicious to me!
We bought a Mexican lasagna two days ago and I cooked it yesterday. It's big enough for us to eat on it for several days.
I hope you and your family stay inside and safe for the next few days. We are above freezing day and night for two days before we drop back into the single digits at night and stay below freezing during the daytime and are scheduled for more snow.

He really enjoyed the pulled pork. I had several pork loins in the freezer that a friend brought over. Her dad left for several months to care for a family member and wanted to empty his freezer, and she couldn’t use it all so she shared. Huge pork loins, she gave me 3 of them! And it will be handy to heat and eat the pulled pork.
We are having a long stretch of messy weather. You know I like snow but I really wish the ice would go away!

@MarieCoyle Once in a while we buy a half pork loin and I roast it.
You're very lucky to get that much meat given to you.
Yeah, I can see the storms on the weather map... It's been storming here all night. We're lucky it's just rain and won't turn to snow until tonight. While it's currently 45F, we drop to 17F tonight. I'm not looking forward to that.

Meats are so, so expensive. I considered it a big blessing! She said she just didn't have enough room to keep it all. We have shared things before--when I make jams or jellies, she really loves them so I give her some, and we've been known to swap and share for a long time.
We are to get at least 4 inches of snow later tonight, which will be good because everything will be a sheet of ice after a short melting time, and it's a lot easier to get around on snow than it is on ice!

I didn’t cook but I have a bag of frozen potatoes, a bag of frozen broccoli, and a container of chicken stock to throw into the crock pot for another batch of infamous potato soup. I guess that’s not really “cooking,” either, but it’s closer to it than warming up leftovers.

@MarieCoyle — aw…
I call it “infamous” because it’s so darn simple to make, and pretty easy to improvise with. Last batch I made, I added a can of Campbell’s spicy nacho cheese soup.

I have never made it that way, but it sounds good to me! I also love the name of it, and every time I have potato soup now, I always think of ''Karen's Infamous Potato Soup''---even if they aren't made the same, I love the name!

Oh, adding spicy stuff...you ARE living on the wild side!
In all seriousness, I wish I could eat spicy. But with the stupid food allergies to hot peppers and such, I can't. I bet it was good.

It sounds like it was a fun day at your place today.
You've given me a great idea, maybe I will make a lasagna this weekend, maybe tomorrow.
We are having another storm hit us this morning, so far it hasn't hit, which I am glad for, but eventually it will arrive.

@MarieCoyle I make a square 8X8 of lasagna and although we will only eat a portion of it when I initially serve it, my hubs will bring it to our son's place and my hubs and the twins will enjoy it reheated for lunches. The girls were fussy eaters, but they will eat anything that they see Grandpa put into his mouth.
Our son asked if he should buy pears and Granny Smith apples so that Grandpa doesn't have to share his with the girls, but he told him that he likes to share, it teaches them to share and also to eat what he does.

We love lasagna. And it freezes so well, for future meals, too.
If you run out of ice, it's all down here--days and days of short ice/freezing rain, I much prefer snow!

Lasagna is something my kids have loved since they were little. I am glad he is teaching them to like different foods, that's good. It's hard sometimes to get kids to try new foods.

We have ice. It iced all night. Supposedly, today it will warm up just above freezing for several hours and it will rain a LOT...then the entire mess freezes back up for days and days. As I have said, I really do like snow (we are to get snow later tonight) but I hate ice storms. Dangerous for everyone, and so many people drive so fast and crazy on ice.

Put on a pot of soup and get out the puzzles and the yarn...it's inside time, for sure.
My exciting plans for the day is to clean out the hall closet at some point. I probably shouldn't even be here on mylot as I have things to do, but I just needed to stop and regroup.
Stay warm and dry, Eva.

@MarieCoyle Gosh, it's so good. I always wonder, how can anyone NOT like it? But I know quite a few people who don't care for it. But it's definitely good eats for me. I need to make some. I make a lot of bean soups, but lately have forgotten about split pea.

I made it in the crock pot, and it's delicious. That's the one soup that this son doesn't really care for, so I froze myself a few small containers and one for my girl, as well as a bit to eat later today. Inexpensive and healthy and delicious, can't go wrong with homemade soup.

It's just what we do here. We aren't in to fast foods, and it's always good to have a meal I can get out and serve fairly quickly from the freezer. Defrost a bit in the microwave, heat, and eat, a lot healthier and cheaper than eating out, and very handy.

We have the sloppy, it's rainy and then misty, Some snow melted a bit and there is standing water in the roads and driveways, etc. That will freeze solid tonight and stay frozen for days, plus we are to have some snow later. So, it's pretty messy out there! I can sympathize on the cold wind, I know it can just feel like you are frozen in place sometimes.

Last night late, we had some big winds and a lot of ice come down. The power flickered on and off for awhile, then it went off, but luck was with us, as it came back on in short order. I was so thankful as it would have really been cold without the furnace!

It's currently sleeting and snowing. We dive down in temps and it will be extremely cold, not ever getting above freezing, until--unbelievably Sunday, Feb. 23! So eight days, with several weather events on the way. I don't mind the snow at all, but ice is always a concern. I hope your lasagna was good!!
