Wednesday before sunrise we have to leave to travel to North Carolina. Thursday morning my stepson graduates from the marine corps training facility there.
So today I needed to go get groceries. I needed food here for my son (my dad’s staying with him) and I needed some food to take with us.
My first stop was the bank and I realized my mistake there when I pulled up and it was closed. I know they are closing the location soon for good but this is just temporary for Presidents’ Day.
We stopped at the mall to go to Hot Topic where I had a coupon for $5 off anything that would expire tomorrow. I found a cute Garfield and Odie earring set that will be for my oldest daughter’s birthday in May.
I went to the jewelers and they had a sign that said due to inclement weather they were closed. Dang so I wasn’t able to get the prongs on my engagement ring checked.
We went to DSW where I had a $15 voucher. I couldn’t find any shoes priced low enough for my little one so I got her socks and a little Ariel toy.
I got groceries at Aldis and when I went to Walmart in the Valentine’s Day clearance section I found a pretty Garfield tin mailbox for $2. That’ll be cute to hold the earrings in for my oldest’s birthday.

Can you use an ATM if you need cash for your trip? I hope you have a safe trip to see him graduate!

@Mariecoyle I actually just needed to move money around in my kids utma account. I can do it another time. We definitely can use the atm to get money out if we need or get cash back if we go to a store like Walmart and need to buy anything. I’m packing now and having so much anxiety.

@MarieCoyle I have almost everything packed now besides just a few things I have to toss in our bags in the morning. I’m tired and will only get 4 1/2 hours of sleep so I have to get offline now.,

I always forget things like President's Day and other holidays that don't matter to me... There are too many National Holidays, in my opinion... Next we'll be "celebrating" trump's birthday or something equally stupid.
I hope you all have a good trip to North Carolina and a good visit with your son after his graduation! Just be careful, please, when you drive back home. You'll be driving right into the storms moving through.

@Daddyevil yeah and they seem to add new ones to the calendar all the time.
We don’t technically have to be home until Monday so if the roads are bad we can stay down there I figure. I know he said on the way home which will be Saturday we will take two days instead of having to do the whole drive in one day like we do on the way down.

and thank you! I’ll update things on our trip at some point. My little one had a belly ache so we decided to stay home from story hour. It’ll give me more time to pack and I have her some Lego’s that were her sisters that will keep her busy a long time today I bet.

@shaggin There is some idiot online who is bragging about adding new holidays to the calendar. I wish they'd make him stop.
I hope everything turns our well driving down, during your stay and driving home again.

@id_peace President day is a national holiday here in the United States. Here is the Wikipedia article about it which will always be able to describe things better then I can
True I just expected they would be. The weather wasn’t bad enough for other places to close so I was very surprised they were. They are family owned so perhaps they just didn’t want workers or themselves on bad roads where they live. Perhaps where they drive to work from had much worse weather.

@rakski I can just go to the bank another day no problem there. It was to put money in not take it out.
Thank you! I’m proud of him what he’s had to do always has sounded awful to me but he likes it. We are on our way now. 9 1/2 hours to go at least. With stops it’ll be much longer I’m sure for bathroom breaks etc with a 3 year old.

That does sound like a successful shopping trip! How old is your daughter? I hope she likes her earrings and mailbox. I've never seen a mailbox like that before. It's so cute! Also, congratulations to your stepson!

@lilacskies the daughter who I bought the Garfield things for will be 21 in May. She will love these things! She’s a huge fan of Garfield. I’ve had mailbox tins like this in the past but never a Garfield one. Lots of Garfield things out the past year with the movie that came out. Before that all we ever found was vintage Garfield things. The newer Garfield is so cute.

@shaggin Wow, she is a huge fan then! I hope she likes them. I didn't watch the older Garfield nor the new one, but I do find both cute! I've seen them on YouTube shorts.

@wolfgirl569 I should have taken a photo of all the fun things I’ve found at great deals for my little one. I got a bag full of things like a brand new Barbie for $6 at a thrift store. I wanted some new things to give her on the way and on the way back to entertain her on our 10 hour drive.

@Marilynda1225 he graduated high school in June then went to book camp and graduated form that in September I believe it was. Then he went to fort jejune where we are going to see him graduate this training he’s done. I think after this he is done and will be deployable which I was not happy to hear my husband say
.

@sallypup we knew traveling with a toddler would make for more stops. Thankfully she was wonderful and did great on the drive. We did have to stop for diaper changes etc. The snow slowed us down a lot. A 10 hour drive took us over 15 hours. I can’t wait to sleep. Hopefully my little one falls asleep early so we can.

Congratulations to your stepson on his Marine Corps graduation. It is a great achievement! Looks like you had a productive yet slightly frustrating day with the unexpected closures! Good thing is you managed to some great deals, especially on the Garfield themed gifts (I personally love them). It is wonderful idea for your daughter’s birthday! It is always fun and great when clearance finds and coupons work perfectly right. It happens rarely though! Hope your trip to North Carolina went well and you had fun. Enjoy the time!

@Revivedwarrior actually my little one throwing a tantrum and messing up the car seat covers I had just gotten in place the night before was pretty much the only thing that frustrated me.
As I was telling l Judyev in the comment above the Garfield ton was actually 40% off so it was less then the $2 I thought when I wrote this post
Thanks heading to North Carolina now. I’m waiting for it to get bright enough I can read a book. Usually I can’t be on my phone this long when someone else is driving or it makes me car sick but I’m doing good so far.
