Tomorrow, tomorrow, another snow day, tomorrow

It has snowed off and on all day today. School is closed tomorrow as well. It is very cold here. 1 degree fahrenheit as our high. Wind chills -20 to -30 F. The road out front looks pretty okay. The plows have gone down and back at least twice. At some point I will have to see if I can get out of our driveway. I know at some point we may have to do makeup days. A week from now it is supposed to be quite warm, which is good. Bob will have his first cataract surgery next Tuesday.

That’s one thing I never had to worry about going to my school growing up. Legally, we didn’t have to have makeup days, so we never did even if public schools had to. I really hope you don’t have to do makeup days though. Enough school for you! And hopefully, next Tuesday will go off without a hitch.

They build quite a few snow days into our schedule each year. I would not be surprised if they just tacked on extra minutes at the end of the day if we have to have make up hours. I think here in Kansas they go by minutes. When my son was in Middle School it was the last school to get air conditioning in our district. The rule of thumb was if it was a certain temperature by 11:00 a.m. they dismissed at 1:00. To compensate for the early dismissals his sixth grade year they just tacked 15 minutes a day on the school day. No extra days added.

@GardenGerty I remember some public schools here adding the extra minutes to each day. I don’t know if that accomplishes anything for the betterment of education, but hey, it looks good on paper.

How many snow days did you have this year so far?

I think we have had five. One week in January we had a Monday and Tuesday off and then the following Friday. Then we have had the two this week. I may have missed one in between, though. I get confused when I know I had one sick day and some appointment days for my husband. More likely it is seven. I think we had two the week we were to go back to school. I am glad we get paid for them.

@GardenGerty I'm so glad you get paid for them. You can't control the weather. Snow days are not on you.

No, he is ready to get it done. He has had so many things wrong the last few years that this seems minor, especially when he knows several people who have had the same.

Our particular class had been so short handed for over two weeks I think we needed a mental health break. I am glad to have it.

It's very cold here as well, with way too much wind to make it feel even colder. Weird, next week it will be in the high 40's, that will seem like a heat wave. I hope tomorrow you can stay inside and be warm, since you have no school.

It is Wednesday. I have not been out of the house since Bruno's appointment Monday morning, until just a bit ago. I decided I needed to make sure a car would start in case I have to work tomorrow.

@GardenGerty I hope it works if and when you need it to. This big deep cold spell is really wrecking havoc on car batteries.

I personally would be willing to accept a couple of your balmy, tropical days here. Preferably on a weekend so I could enjoy them.

Oh! I hate makeup classes, they extend one day a week for the makeup class when the classes closed due to bad weather and flooding. We don't have snow here just rainy season.

In some ways rain and floods are even more worrisome than snow. I know some places when kids have discipline problems or fall really behind they have Saturday school.

The Weather Channel claims we're at 7F right now with over 7 inches of snow on the ground and another 4 inches is predicted to fall this afternoon/evening. -10 Wind chill. The street our front of the house is completely covered over. I've seen the plow go through at noon today but it looks like the street hasn't been touched since then. I can see traffic moving on the highway through the city but nothing is moving on our street or the next street by the hospital.

My street is considered to be an alternate truck route so it gets plowed well. It is Wednesday and it is 5F, but I went out and the van started right up and the driveway is not blocked at all.

@GardenGerty Our street is just a side street here so they don't worry about clearing it very well.

As long as we have everything we need here, and we do, then I do not mind the snow days.

That’s sooo cold! I don’t know how I’d cope with such low temps. It’s nice school is closed, I hope you’re staying cozy and warm at home. Glad Bob is having surgery on a warmer day too!

It is very cold. We use heated throws and do not run super high heat. We stay comfy though. I worry about kids that might have to walk to school in this weather.

@GardenGerty Right, it can be very dangerous for kids as their little bodies might not be able to produce as much heat… although I don’t recall suffering the cold as a child, I don’t know whether kids are more insensitive to extreme temps or my mother would just know how to dress me properly. I don’t.
