The Bad Stuff Is At The Back!

Do you ever read the fine print at the back of the packaged food and snacks you consume? Product manufacturers are smart. All the good stuff health conscious people want to see is usually written boldly across the front. Like no cholesterol, no transfat, but take a look at the back. There you will find a long list of unhealthy ingredients (including preservatives ) in the fine print. High amounts of sodium, sugar, unhealthy oils and saturated fat. I was checking out a new brand of crackers in the supermarket and was blown away by the long list of unhealthy ingredients written at the back. I think l can make my own crackers - with 5 or less ingredients....Do you take note of what is written at the back.? Pixabay image.

I am guilty to say that I don't always read the back. I have a tight budget so sometimes I just check the price. I buy my groceries online so I just buy what I need and that's it.

I am guilty of sometimes ignoring what l see and convince myself that l won't make a habit of purchasing the product.

@Kandae11 Sometimes I have no idea where my food is coming from. I could be buying something from China with lead in it and I would have no idea. I need to work on that.

I like to think that I'm a label reader and do check to see how much sugar, carbs and fat are in something. I guess I don't read the whole list of ingredients though.

@Kandae11 it's pretty scary when you actually consider what's going in our food

Not really, but I try not to buy things with palm oil or transfats.

You're on the right track. Transfats clog the arteries and lead to heart attacks.

Some of the older brands have less additives .

I do read labels, too. With eating gluten free, the foods I cook don't have the preservatives and other unhealthy ingredients.

I always look at the nutritional facts but rarely the ingredients, I get some less healthy things are needed to increase shelf life or give the product a specific texture. However, I’ve been considering making some stuff myself, from scratch, such as tortilla wraps and other baked goods. They seem easy to make and I usually got enough time to try.

Its a great feeling when you know exactly what you are consuming because you made it yourself. Of course in the fast paced world we live in l know that won't always be possible...
