A Possibility of DRC Splitting into two

Africa may see a new country coming up soon. Rebels have taken full control of the Eastern DRC and are now in charge of important towns such as Goma and Bukavu which are well known for trade, industry and minerals. Government forces seem to be totally defeated and are retreating. M23 fighters however are not interested in the capital, Kinshasa, and are evidently focusing on the Eastern side of the country. Some residents are supporting them and even calling them 'saviours'.
I think in the long run, the enormous country could go the Yugoslavia way, or the Sudan way at the least, with the rebels taking over eastern DRC and the government retaining the rest.

The current situation on ground in Eastern DRC is definitely complex and concerning. It has been happening for some time. With the M23 gaining ground and local support has been growing in some areas if not most, split similar to what happened in Sudan / Yugoslavia /Somalia or Ethiopia does seem possible. But then long-term stability is a concern and largely depend on how other neighbours and international react such as Uganda, Rwanda and even global powers. There are things at stake especially with DRC minerals. So, perhaps it is a wait and watch situation.
