I am an Irish girl through and through. I found some interesting facts about the holiday and wanted to share them: * Almost 12% of Americans claim Irish ancestry. There are said to be more people of Irish ancestry living in the United States than in Ireland. * There are more than 100 St. Patrick's Day parades held across the United States. The first one was hosted by Irish Americans in Boston in 1737. * St. Patrick's Day, or Feast of Saint Patrick is a cultural and religious day held on March 17 the traditional death date of the patron saint of Ireland. * The first St. Patrick's Day parade was held in Waterford, Ireland in 1903. * In the United States on this day around 3 million pints of the Irish stout Guinness. That's five times the amount consumed on any other day. * The New York City St. Patrick's Day parade is the largest in the United States, and it is the oldest civilian parade. St. Patrick is one of my favourite saints and I'd love to be in a parade.
