Upgrades

There is never an end to upgrades. No matter what the gadgets manufacturers keep upgrading their products more for their own survival.
As long as spare parts are available there is no reason why one shoudl go for upgrades.
Take for example those mobiles with four cameras. Why would anyone want four cameras unless one is a profressional photogapher?
I am still having feature phones not even a smart phone and must say I am doing well in my online pursuits

I used a flip phone until they made me switch to a smart phone. It has been hard getting used to it. I may never learn all of the features.

That is precisely what upgrades do Add features that are never used.

Didn't they offer you a 4G flip phone? They should have. It's a smart phone but is built like the old flip phones to help uhm... "older" users adjust to the modern world of phones.

One of the downsides of upgrading is figuring out how to use the new one.

It's good business pratice to appeal to a wider more generalized market. So that's why companies are alaways upgrading things.

If one can easily manage what is already available I do not think there is need.

@allknowing Some people can't. THat's why upgrades exist. It not only keeps copanies in business, but helps consumers, too. For example, I live in the U.s. As part of trying to fix old towers, and future proof and strengthen poles, older 2 and 3 g towers were replaced with 4 and 5 g technologies. which means an old school 3 g phone would no longer work.
Aaddationally, as a disabled woman, my phone needs to offer some accessablity options. older future phones don't have much (if any) options.

@kaylachan The old 3G will no longer work because of upgrades but 3G did its job earlier with no complaints. I will go for upgrades if they genuinely help me and not because they are available. I am doing fine with whatever gadgets I have.

I can't agree with you more. I have a dongle for my desktop that takes care of all my online requirements. I do not need those features in my mobile. I hardly go out and all the more reason why I do not need a smart phone

What is a "feature" phone? Phones here have to be upgraded because the US is now using 5G and, in some places, 6G networks. My 4G phone is still working but anything less than 4G no longer works here.

@allknowing Oh, you just mean old junky phones. Thank you.
Those phones wouldn't work here anymore. "voice" means they use 1 or 2G technology.

I am.still using my Samsung Galaxy J7 that I bought in Manila in 2018. As long it does its job, I won't toss it away. My hubby bought S9 but I only use it as a backup. My phones are old but in good condition.

I still use my desktop and am doing fine. Upgrades for the sake of upgrades is a waste of time and money

I switched to a smart phone as I do most of my online work on it, especially bank transactions.

I agree with your though! Most of the technology companies push for upgrades frequently, often for their own profits and benefits rather than for true needs or necessity. Many features like multiple cameras may not be essential for daily users. If your feature phone is able to serve you well, then there is no real need for upgrade. I do not change phones until it becomes hard to go by with current phone. The cost is also a factor. At the end of day , it’s all about practicality and using what works best for you is the best way to go ahead instead of following trends. Take care!

But many users just grab those upgraded gadgets for reasons best known to them.
