Is immediate fix better or should repairs be delayed for better outcomes?

I have a friend who ensures that anything is damaged, he would have it fixed at earliest. He does not rest till the broken item is back to normal or replaced. One of my neighbours on the other hand has been quite the opposite, he does not rush into repair immediately, rather takes time to do things. When it comes to plumbing or something similar, he clubs everything together and have it done at one go. Of course, if it is urgent, both should be fixing them immediately. It also made me think there are merits to the neighbour’s approach. One by taking time, he could analyse and find root cause of issues instead of bringing in temporary fixes. He could also at better expert to come and fix things for a better price. However, the approach can also be risky in the sense if the delay is long, it could cause troubles and serious hazards can happen. So, do you go with immediate fixes or have the repairs /replacement delayed for better outcomes?

Usually the longer you wait on something the worse it gets

I agree on that. I often noticed that on many items which gets further damaged. Sometimes , if things were repaired on time , a better shelf life was possible. But then by waiting , it needs to be replaced.

Sometimes we have to save up the money to have the repairs done... It can really be annoying but, things do eventually get fixed. (We rent our house so if something with the house needs repaired, that is the responsibility of the landlady. She's good about getting things fixed.)

Cost if definitely a big factor. If it costs much , better to wait or save and then have the fix done.

The sooner it is repaired the better, don't let the damage spread to other parts too.

That is one of those decisions based on the situation. Factors like your budget (cost), further damage if you wait, what the item is that you're repairing and your own abilities as a repairman vs hiring someone must be considered. After considering your options you act accordingly. I've put off items due to cost to repair or how necessary it was to deal with immediately. But I've found if you can afford it, leave it to the professionals and don't wait.

Good points! Definitely repair cost and our skills as a repairman comes into picture when we decided something to be fixed at earliest or not.

I mean if something essential is not working in my house, I would want to have it fixed at the earliest.

What we want and what we get are not always the same thing.

It does make sense to have an essential fixed immediately. Waiting for essential may not be always fruitful.

Immediate fixes have the advantage in most cases to avoid further damage to certain things.
