Technology Is Cool But

There have been a couple of things that have been bugging me lately.
First of all, WordPad has been deprecated by Microsoft.
WordPad used to be my favorite text editing software, I relied on it heavily for myLot drafts. I'm using Notepad now because Office stuff can be quite heavy on the memory. I'm sure there's a workaround, but my time is too precious at the moment to try.
The other nuisance is delivered by YouTube.
English is not my native language but I'm fluent enough to watch videos in English most of the time.
YouTube has implemented the AI dubbing feature, as if the automatic translation of titles wasn't enough.
The AI voice is so weird, and it makes everything sound super childish for some reason.
"Hey guys, what's up" in my native language sounds like something someone would say in a kids cartoon I'd watch decades ago.
I guess there is a way to fix this once for all, instead of having to manually switch to the original audio every single time, yet again, time is too precious to even attempt.
One AI thing that (almost) never disappoints is Gemini when it generates pictures as the one up above.
So, have you been facing similar struggles lately?

I'm a native English speaker... even if the British don't believe it's "real" English...
I tell YT not to recommend/play any channel that isn't in English so I rarely have a problem.
I've always used Notepad for any notes I need to keep.

@somewitch I like not having a format. I can do almost anything with Notepad.

@DaddyEvil I know it can be used for programming or editing text files in… videogames. Is there more?

@DaddyEvil You might speak a dialect of English but it’s clearly English and not a totally different language, the Brits gotta deal with it!
I liked the extra formatting WordPad would bring, Notepad is too bland but I’ve found myself using it before. Now I’m just going to use it more often.

I keep dealing with AI every time I look up something on Amazon. It's so annoying. I'm going to stop shopping there altogether. I haven't noticed any AI on the Nordstrom website at least.

@lilacskies I didn’t notice AI on Amazon, I’m sure it’s very annoying! I’m lucky I get to use my mother’s account so she takes care of all the disputes, she’s become an expert at this point and keeps on buying there even if she’s been saying “this is the last time” quite often lately.

@somewitch Yes, it keeps getting in my way every time I try to search something. Haha nice. Shopping online can be addicting.

@kareng I’m afraid it won’t serve humanity the way it is allegedly intended to do, but they might be better at saving the world than humans.

@somewitch AI is just going to take a lot of jobs away before it is over with.

I use Microsft word if I have to write may be an article My bone of contention with YouTube is their restrictions while uploading videos. They keep asking whether it is for kids or not for kids and either way I get frozen there. I have stopped uploading there and now I do it on Vimeo

@allknowing I think it's better to not say it's for kids because they disable comments or some other restrictions, and the content might receive less exposure too. I haven't uploaded on YouTube in ages but I might in the future, so I'd like to know more!

@somewitch I refuse to allow a machine to intrude on my writing. I have had enough success that such activity really is not wanted.

@sallypup I don’t mind using AI to spellcheck or simply improve my writings, but only if I ask. Unrequested advice is bad in all its forms.

@grenery8 Chinese series?!
I think I've seen some shorts/reels before, they caught my attention but didn't give in as they probably redirected to their own website and not YT.

@grenery8 I tend to use Spotify for music but sometimes I go to YouTube because many songs aren’t available. I mostly watch cooking and fitness videos or whatever the tube recommends. As if 100% AI generated content wasn’t enough, now my YouTubers sound like possessed by some AI demon.
What series did you try to watch on there? I’m unfamiliar with those, except for small projects from local creators I used to follow.

What is your native language ? Other than my phone (Siri) I haven’t had any AI experiences.

@Tampa_girl7 Italian. I haven’t spoke to Siri in a while, it’s been Gemini most of the time and it’s pretty good.

Let's put it this way my life and my work are all on the Internet. If I can write, blog, and post with no problems I am a happy person and my anxiety does not bother me, I had a problem with my desktop PC and my friend downstairs took it to see if he can fix it. i work on my laptop now but it is a struggle. In short if I cannot get a trusty PC back even if it means less food coming in on my next grocery order I will have to purchase a new desktop PC just something that is my life.

@JudyEv I don’t have the license for MS Office but I could use a free alternative, it’s just that it might take a while for pages to open etc. But it’s a good one otherwise, I enjoyed formatting the text so there would be a title, a body and tags even.

Free versions of AI are the ones that make things or voices sound fake or childish try using paid AI for original quality for your content

@Candybee Makes sense, we gotta tell YouTube that. Those cheapskates use free AI.
