Oh, so you missed music while I was out toodling about in Florida, huh? You wanted music, huh? Remember, YOU ASKED FOR IT!!!!! Welcome to 1955. The year Elvis broke out (darn those pimples…oh, wrong “breaking out” ) also had pop (annoying pop, think Pat Boone) and doo-wop and country and whatever one of the songs on the list is classified as. (I call it “good,” because that’s what Duke Ellington famously said was one of two classifications of music…the other being “bad.”) All of this was 70 years ago. What a long, strange trip it’s been (as the Grateful Dead later said). My parents actually had a Christmas “sing along with Mitch” album, so your teaser is Mitch Miller with his 1955 hit “The Yellow Rose of Texas.”

I love that song! It reminds me of the fight scene in Giant.

It's amazing how some stars work almost all their lives, she's up there with George Burns, Bob Hope & Betty White ..... I hope she'll live as long as they did.

Seems like it’s been around forever (well, it has been…since at least 1850).

Look at those bonnets! Mitch Miller was certainly big in his day.

I know, it’s like he invaded an Amish grade school.

I like it, too. Elvis later did a medley of this with “The Eyes of Texas” and I love that version so much.
