Sim Card Hell

Have you ever tried to replace a sim card in your cell phone? My phone had no internet service for the past few days. I called Comcast support and spoke to a nice Indian lady after a 10 minute hold. After about 15 minutes of her not understanding what I was saying, she transferred me to another nice Indian lady, higher up on the food chain. After about three minutes of her trying to understand me, the line went dead. I had been hung up on. This morning, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I removed the sim card from my phone and replaced it. It took about half an hour, as sim cards are tiny little things that tend to float, like a wounded butterfly, to the floor when you try to remove or install them. I eventually got the Ssm card in, and the phone worked. So I feel very accomplished. I was able to send the photos I took at the "showcase" to myself for editing. Hopefully there will be a "cute kid" photo attached to my next post. Off to the shower. How has your day been so far?

@TheHorse did you need a special tool to get it out?

I get your problem. SIM cards have been getting progressively smaller. The standard one was small enough, but then it reduced to a Mini, then a Micro, and then a Nano. Hopefully they won’t get any smaller or it’ll have to be left to a child with small hands, or a robot to carry out the replacement. Well done on completing it!

@TheHorse Basically it’s so they leave more room for other bits of hardware that is demanded. Phones are amazing pieces of kit these days.

@Orson_Kart Yeah. I was a live when computers were big ol' things with dedicated rooms.

Thanks for the info. I had not realized they'd been getting progressively smaller.

I wouldn't trust myself to replace sim cards. I would probably bend it or tear it

I thought mine would flutter away, to be eaten by the house gremlins.

I am home from Guitar Center, and heating up some pizza for dinner. I will see if the phone still works. I guess I am proud that American companies are providing jobs for people in India. Or something. But aren't there people who need jobs here?

@wolfgirl569 I wish the tech support were here. The Indians and Filipinos they hire for teach support were not involved in making the phones.

I would not know what to do about a SIM card. My hand is being forced to perhaps get a plain mobile phone, I got a cheap one but now before I can find out if I can get service on it my desktop PC my life I call it is trying to be revived by my friend the IT specialist downstairs. Now it looks like heck with the mobile and very minimum on groceries this month and everything toward a new desktop SIGH

I had pate on toast for breakfast. It's past its use-by date so needed to be eaten.

Do you have plenty of toilet paper? I had to wipe my tush with paper towel during Trump's first administration, and I would rather not have to do that again. I have a "tough tush," having spent some time hiking, camping, etc., but I want to live in luxury in my later years.

@TheHorse Australia just about ran out of toilet paper when covid first hit. Women were fighting over it in the supermarket.

This is why I keep the sim card pin as it is still useful if we want to take out the sim card from the phone.

I think the morning is catching up to George, but we're good otherwise. And, yes, I've done it several times. Often times I'll get someone else who can see better then I can to do it, but I use esims now.

At times, I too have none to look for help except the good old me. Necessity is the mother of invention is ever true.
