It’s been forever since I’ve done more than one post in a day. I thought I’d go on and show the back of the home. It is built into the ground , so from the front the upper floor is street level. We haven’t done much in the back, but did tear down rusty shed and put a new deck up. The inside of the home was so horrid that we will finish up the yard last. We need to make under the deck look better.
I hope that you all have had a good day. We are getting ready to have dinner…Bratwurst, sauerkraut and baked beans.

You have really improved the look of the back of the home.
We had a deck like that, and I planted some hostas and sedum under there, and they look after themselves, and it was good green groundcover that looked cleaner and better than the dirt alone did.

I would have made under the deck storage space and never had the shed in the back yard. It looks a lot better without the shed and with the makeover you've done back there.

@DaddyEvil I think it would be fine as long as we don’t go all the way back.

Under the deck is sloped up hill. We have thought of trying to make some kind of storage, but can’t go very far under.

@Tampa_girl7 Oh, I see... Would it make the house walls unstable if you dug our a room under there?

Dinner sounds yummy. I had been explaining to Bob that my grandparents house that they built in Arkansas was along these lines. You could park and come in at ground level into the kitchen/dining areas. The front of their house and a screened in porch were elevated above ground level as it was built into a hill. They actually could park lawn equipment and such under the porch. You will have a lovely time when you are finally there.

I think these types of homes are more common in certain places. I like that it is cooler in the hot months in certain rooms in the ground.

I personally know how much work it took to do what all you have done to make it better and look so nice. I love the porch.

Thank you. Yes, it is a lot of work. Some trips one project doesn’t even get finished and we have to wait for the next trip to finish.
