It Wasn't a Suicide

Yesterday I received awful news that my younger cousin had died. What was explained to me is that he had fallen into a very deep depression, decided to stop eating, and drank himself to death. In his final death throes having starved himself, dehydrated himself, and while succumbing to severe alcohol poisoning, he refused the services of an ambulance. Suicide was the word I used. "He didn't kill himself, he drank himself to death," I was told. Well, correct me if I am wrong, but suicide does not mean just putting a gun to your head or downing a bunch of pills or whatever other common method of suicide one might resort to. If you make a conscious decision to do something that will most certainly cause your death... You have committed suicide.

It certainly was a sad and alarming situation. It came as a shock. Never suspected he was hurting the way he was.

Thank you. It came as a bit of a shock. Few people were aware he was suffering such darkness in his life.

I am so sorry for your loss. It was quite obvious that he wanted to kill himself. May his soul rest in peace.
