Sometimes They Jump Out Atcha!

Yesterday we wound up making a stop at Ruler Foods. I didn't necessarily plan on it, but there were several items on the list we get from there and the wife needed a couple things we typically get there as well, so to Ruler Foods we went.
It's a store similar to Aldi with a few differences such as many more brand name items available. You also have to deposit a quarter to get a cart and get it back when you return it.
The funny thing about the Ruler carts is that for whatever reason some of the cart's quarter slots seem to be spring loaded, so if you're not careful and ready to catch your quarter when you insert the "key" from the cart behind it, you might abruptly lose it.
I am well aware of this and always stand at the ready to catch a launched quarter. Not going to get me!
The guy ahead of me who was returning his cart seemed unaware of this, and when he put the key in, I heard it. Zzzz, tink, tink, tink. His quarter was airborne and gone.
He fished around for it a bit but finally gave up when I joked to him, "You know, you're going to be told by your financial advisor when you decide to retire that you are exactly a quarter short."
He found that humorous. But I also told him, "Sometimes they jump out at you." He will be more aware the next time.

Hopefully, it never hits anyone in the face.
Did you by any chance find his quarter?

@porwest I thought maybe it can fly in an upward trajectory.

And I thought you meant the bargains jump out at you.

That was nice of you to warn him about it so he knows for the next time.

Haha, that's funny. The employees probably pick up several quarters thoughout the day there.
So far I'm about $150 ahead on the buggy quarters at Aldi's! I have not had to put a quarter in for a buggy--either one left in lot or someone gives me a buggy going into the store. I tried to give 2 people a quarter for the buggy they gave me and won't accept it. Oh well, in my piggy bank now!

You realize that the head of some keys will fit into that slot, too. Keys are easier to see if they're launched at you than a quarter is. And you're likely to hunt harder for it, too.
There is an Aldi about 20 miles away from us on the highway into Springfield. Once in a while on our way home from a doctor appointment Pretty will ask me to stop there for some groceries.

One store in the New Orleans area did have a policy to insert a quarter inside the shopping cart before entering the store and getting the quarter out of the cart when the customer finished shopping.
The grocery store in the New Orleans area was named National before Wal Mart set up shop and became the top supermarket in the area.

Sadly most people don't blink an eye over losing "just a quarter" as they see it. Quarters (and pennies) add up.
