Littles for my Twins

I cook more than most people do when cooking for only 2. I usually make enough that my husband can bring it to our son's place the following day, so that he, and the twins can have it for lunch-reheated of course. This began when the girls stopped eating what Mom and Dad had in the refrigerator for their meals, and started wanting what Grandpa was eating. These days, they will devour most, if not all, of his fruit, which is either a pear or a Granny Smith apple. Those apples are tart, but the girls see him eat it and figure that they are good. They eat his granola bar, after he gives them each a piece there isn't really anything for him. Our son has them in the cupboard, but the girls insist on having from Grandpa's lunch. I recently asked Willow what she would like Nanny to make for supper that night so that they could have it for lunch the next day. Willow quickly replied chocolate cupcakes......pleeeeese. She has me wrapped around her little finger, especially when she gives me that pleeese Nanny. I melted and this morning I made what I would consider to be smaller than the 1 bite brownie size, chocolate cupcakes. I remember my Dad telling me that my Gramma spoiled me. I was too young to understand the meaning of spoiled, as I always thought of the spoiled apples that fell from the tree and browned in the summer sun and usually had worms in them. ~Photo is mine

My own Gramma used to spoil me with time. My alone time with her was so precious to me. She taught me how to pick apples from the ground, that were not rotten, I was pretty small in those days. She taught me how to tell if an apple is ready to be picked off of the tree and then in the house how to peel it and slice them. She did not spoil me with material goods, she did not have the means to do that. But spoiling me with her attention meant the world to me and I could literally feel her love. I have a sampler framed over our bed that she received from her bridal shower, she is everywhere without looking too far in my life, even my dining room suite, was hers.

@Juliaacv That is so sweet. I love the bond that you and your grandma had growing up. I am still close to my own grandma as well. She lives an hour away from me and we hang out often. She is my papa's mama. My own mama's mama passed away while giving birth to her. My grandma is 87 years old and has a love life. She plans to move back to Italy permanently this year with her lover. I plan to visit Italy and Israel this year to meet and bond with my relatives in both countries. I am saving up for a passport, plane tickets, and more.

@Juliaacv That will be a good thing for those days when you need a treat for them, but not enough time to make one!

@kareng I usually make up mini loaves of fruit bread, blueberry or cherry or whatever fruit is in season and I will freeze them. They love Nanny loaves. Those little girls put Nanny in front of everything that I make. It is a little comical because their other grandmother makes them nothing.

We just adore them so very much. A little bit of spoiling with baking, mostly we spoil them with the time that we spend together.

That's funny but I can understand a small child's reasoning. It's always nice to be spoiled a little bit by someone, especially a grandparent.

Yes, it is so easy to spoil them. Yesterday they were wearing adorable little tops with pink bows on them and cute new little jeans with a patch in the shape of a heart on the knees. Everyone complimented them on their tops, and they told them proudly that Nanny and Grandpa gave them to them. They did look cute even if I say so myself. But those tops were Christmas gifts, not nothing gifts.

I love spoiling mine when I get the chance to, it never gets old. All of their lives, they will remember what Grandma made for them, with love. Good job, Julia!

Thanks, they just mean too much to me not to spoil them just a little bit. And Willow asked me for them. That is a compliment in my books, the 2 of them usually ask for Nanny's pasta more than anything else.

@Juliaacv My older grands often ask me for homemade chicken and noodles. The younger ones are not set in their ways yet, except they all always want cookies. LOTS of cookies!

My once sister-in-law said "The only spoiled child is one that is left to itself to rot." So there, Nanny. You are not guilty. Cute that they want what Grandpa has.

They admire and look up to Grandpa. Technically he spends more time caring for them than anyone else. Everything from dressing them in the morning, feeding them breakfast, lunch and snacks. He has taught them to feed themselves, talk, sit up, crawl, walk, socialize, manners, and go to the bathroom. They all have an amazingly strong and sweet bond.

They are alot smaller than they look. For an adult they are a one bite cupcake, but for the twins they will be a 2 or 3 biter.
