Oh, no, two country songs in a row from 1985! Sorry about that (no I’m not
). We continue the monthlong look at songs from 40 years ago. Some of these have aged well. I think this one has, particularly!!
Life’s Highway - Steve Wariner
NOTE: This is NOT that Tom Cochrane “Life is a Highway” song. That came out in 1991, and it’s not half the song this one is. Yeah, that one is a good rocker, but this one…ooh!
This is philosophical (“there’s bread to win and tolls to pay…here’s hoping you never go astray on life’s highway”), all the while maintaining a great country feel with Jerry Douglas’ always-stellar dobro playing leading the way.
Steve Wariner was quite successful in the 80s, but he’s fallen through the cracks of time. That’s a shame, because, after four Grammys and three CMAs, he should be remembered by more than a few fans. If nothing else, for this great song.
Life’s Highway
Written by Richard Leigh and Roger Murrah
Recorded by Steve Wariner
From Life’s Highway, 1985

@FourWalls definitely not. A group of field hockey players decided to use the running tine to run to the Local Friendly's. They came back late and one of them had cookie dough still stuck in her mouthguard. Their punishment was that they had to run laps around the field with sticks overhead. They sang "Life is a Highway" the whole time. It was hilarious.

I’m not surprised. He got dropped like a hot potato, and I don’t know why.

Amazing how quickly they fade into obscurity, isn’t it. As I said, this guy won four Grammy awards.
