So, they call this morning say my car is ready Hip Hooray.. Friend takes me out there to pick it up, start it up the check engine light is still on!! I mentioned it in the office, and the person at the desk says they have all gone to lunch.
. Anyway, I had a couple of things to do in town..one was to get lunch..FYI, who do I see at Subway but the mechanic crew .probably spending my money..
. Anyway, I mention about the light and that I did notice it was running better
He said bring it back in we will turn it off, but if it comes back on we will have to do another diagnostic on it..yeah, another 40 bucks, No Thank you. I mentioned they had done that before. By the way, it was a misfire on cylinder #2 the one the other garage had supposedly fixed.!
Heck with them, if it comes on again.ivwill have it diagnosed and take it to someone who knows what they are doing .really .how sloppy to give back a car with the check engine light still on I will admit though it is running 100 percent better, but something tells me we are not done with this yet

Honestly, those check engine lights are a curse of the devil himself. Once they come on, and they supposedly ''fix'' what it says is wrong, they seem to just come on over and over again. We had a car like that one time. Took it to the dealership, and to two other mechanics. Finally one guy sat me down and said, you can drive it with it on. There is nothing wrong with your car except the system keeps triggering that light, and it will never stay off again for more than a day or two. That guy had never done us wrong before, and we believed him. The car was perfectly serviced, and the ex drove it until it croaked (about another 100,000 miles with that light on. I am not saying that is the case for everyone but it sure was for us.

You would think with all the new inventions, etc. that someone would come up with a solution to invent a better type of check engine light. Maybe someday.
I know several people here that were planning to replace a vehicle later this year. Now they are looking around, thinking they maybe better buy it soon, since the tariffs will make the prices way higher if and when they kick in(which is a big possibility)...and of course, if new cars are higher in price, used cars will be higher, too. I'm sure it's a huge worry for you, and I wish you didn't have this hassle. I'm sure it's a worry for you.

I had the check engine light come on because I didn't twist the gas cap right. Took it to a friend and he put his computer on it, and said it was okay. Then I explained how I had stopped to get gas and when I got in the van the light came on. He laughed got out of the van, went to the gas cap, twisted it 3 times, and the light went out. From then on I always twist a gas cap 3 times.Something to do with an air release something. LOL

You need to complain about it not being fixed and demand your money back.

They were willing to fix it again for free if I left it with them, but they had it long enough the first time, and zi figured if they could fix it, they would have done it the first time. I don't want to aggravate them, because we have had a long association and I might need them again sometime.

@Juliaacv That is what all good mechanics do. Obviously, they didn't.or they didn't care.

@snowy22315 Obviously they didn't finish their job.
Here they have to take the vehicle for a test drive to make sure that it is running properly and that the warning lights are out.

I hope so, but am thinking unlikely. After all it was on for a reason.

Sounds like they didn’t even check to see if it was cleared up on the dash. My niece bought a car drive it home after the guy supposedly inspected to find it had no working lights at all. It would never pass inspection that’s one of the first thing they check. What a poor dealer!

I always demand any car has a current inspection when I buy it.

Some technicians are big cheats. They search for a plea to extract money.

Mechanics are horrible everywhere. I always dread dealing with them. It's never a good experience. It's costly and they act like know-it-alls about everything.
