Unable to Weight Bare

This afternoon I spent at our son's place.
When I arrived, I was greeted at the door by Ellie, and the twins, Grandpa was just finishing up cleaning up after lunch. When Ellie came near me she jumped up a bit, which isn't normal as she let out a little cry. I looked towards the girls as they were behind her, and noticed alot of blood leading to Ellie.
There was alot of bright red blood, and when I called to Grandpa he quickly ushered her out the back door.
He was able to get a good look at her front paw outside. One of her toenails was almost off. She was pulling on it before I got to the door he told me. He got her canine gauze and wrapped it and then put the special protective sock on it.
She recently had surgery on one of her paws, and they feared it cancer.
She has taken a course of medication for nail fungus, so that can be ruled out. I do not know if it is onychodystrophy or something else. She was shaking when she came inside. I sat on a chair in the dining room, and petted her trying to relax her to get her to lie down. She was shaking, and I think that she knows that she is ill. It brought tears to my eyes, I don't do well with sick pets. It took me a while but I did get her to lie down on her towel. She did not weight bare after that incident, and I really hope that she does better.

Oh, dear. She needs a cone, to keep her from chewing and licking it, and she no doubt needs the vet to see her again, and possibly some pain medication. It's hard to second guess what a pet is feeling. I hope she can recover and have a bit more time with the family she loves.

She has a cone, which she dislikes, as all pets do.
They have a great sock with a tie that my husband put over it on top of the special canine gauze that he bound her paw with. That will hold the nail in place so that if she bumps it she doesn't push it out of its place.
I think that she knows that she is terribly ill. I sat quietly in the dining room where she likes to lay down, before she'd lay down, I gently stroked her back, and she was shaking like a leaf, she is afraid. I talked quietly to her and I think that she really felt my love.

@MarieCoyle Not cancer, but I think that she has something else, unless they are keeping it from me.
And I could understand if they are.
I just couldn't believe how much blood there was, it was alot and so thick and red. Ugh.

And she really doesn't have cancer, right? Poor sweet soul...I am sure she did feel the love you gave her, Julia.

I hope she will fully recover soon. She must be in so much pain and she can't even speak. Animals go through so much, but they can't tell anyone. They must suffer in silence. That is so sad.

@Juliaacv Yes, it's so heartbreaking. The poor things. They are so adorable and innocent.

@RebeccasFarm She is not healing. Poor Ellie, she has lived a good life, but has something awful going on which there is no cure for. I do not know how long she will be with us.

@Juliaacv — I understand that completely. I’ve shed a lot of tears over pets over the years.

@FourWalls There is just nothing like a faithful pet.
They don't judge you when you need them for comfort, and are ready to give you love, and playfulness outside, or just to be with you at your side. She has always lifted my spirits.

Thank you, I hope so too.
I feel like she has health problems that might be bigger than she is.
Our son told me that they thought it was cancer at one point, but her biopsy came back negative.
I don't do well with sick pets, I get too emotionally attached and I cry too easily.

I will pray for sweet Ellie. I know it makes you all heart sick to be so worried about her.

Thank you, I appreciate the prayers.
Willow and Harper each ran to get their toy medical bags.
Harper kept saying, I need help here, I need help.
It was sweet to see, but traumatic at the same time.
They were both glued to the back door window for some time looking at the blood loss on the patio until Grandpa got it cleaned off. I hope that they do not have nightmares tonight, they are still so young.

Hope she heals ok. She could have just hooked the nail on something.
