Our utility company, in an effort to reduce the need for meter readers, who incidentally get bitten by dogs and sometimes lack access to meters due to fences, have rolled out "smart meters."
They are digital now and can be read from any computer, including ours. There's supposed to be a digital dashboard on our utility site where we can manage our gas and electric consumption.
We're pretty excited about this updated technology. Have they rolled those out where you live?

@looeyville I’ve had one for years. I buy my electricity in advance on the phone but a guy comes to read the metre once a year just to make sure, and if he doesn’t get us in that’s on.

FPL put those on homes and apartments years ago. I've been monitoring our power use for a good ten years now. Maybe a little more. I am surprised you're just now getting it.
