Camping Begins Again...Soon

Well, it's official and on the books. Our first camp is scheduled for the end of April for a three-night stay and as usual, it should be a lot of fun. This time it will be with my dad and his wife, who got a site right next door to us to park their motor home. We've got the dinner plans laid out, and we'll be a bit smarter this time around by doing some "pre-loading" of water and whatnot, and bringing just a bit more food from home. Good to save money wherever and whenever you can, you know. Also, something I have not done in the past is to load the camper with clothes. Seems silly to bring your second house on wheels with you and still have to "pack." So, I will be fixing that and throwing in a few things. Shorts, shirts, underwear and socks and a couple ball caps. We've got a few things in there. But I want the closets to be "packed" more like home. Of course, it will have to be something done "on rotation," since we will of course bring our dirty stuff back with us to wash. But no worries. The camper is stored practically right down the street about 5 minutes away, and we're there often during the camping season cleaning up and doing other things that need to be done. We'll try to get at least 4 or 5 camps in this year and that's enough for us. Onward and upward and I'm really looking forward to this year's season kicking back and just enjoying being outside next to a campfire with some good eats and ice-cold beer.

Your camping trips sound like fun. Good idea to have your camper fully stocked

We have all the other amenities like pots and pans, utensils, plates and bows and whatever else you might think of. But not clothes. It makes no sense, so we will fix it. But yeah, camping is very relaxing and fun even if pulling the darn thing can sometimes be a pain in the neck. lol

Enjoy! I have never been a camper but of course it depends on the kind of motor home you have. This year I´m planing to save on some luxuries at the supermarket. I will not buy some food from the US for some time and will eat and drink less expensive alternatives for a few years. I´ll miss my Jack Daniels though. I prefer it to Scotch.

Yeah, I mean, when you think about it, what we are actually doing is what is commonly referred to as "glamping." We have a shower, a toilet, a full kitchen, refrigerator and freezer, microwave, coffeemaker, a queen sized bed, air conditioning and heat... We're not really "roughing" it. lol

When we did a lot of camping with the girls, I quickly learned to pre-pack. My husband and I kept essentials in the camper and like you say, the clothes have to be rotated. Packing for 5 while working full time and doing that after work on a Friday to pull out Saturday morning was too much. Always laundry involved with 3 girls.

@porwest It did! I turned their laundry over to them when they reached like 15. There was sometimes a fight over who was using the laundry room first.

We go through quite a bit of laundry here too and it's just the two of us. I can't imagine a full house. The washer and dryer would probably be running non-stop. lol

@kareng Hey, if you can get teenagers to do ANYTHING, that in itself is an accomplishment.

Is that the motor-home in the picture?

No. That's inside our camper. We have a "travel trailer."

@porwest I guess that's what we call a caravan - except a lot bigger I expect!

@Fleura I always thought a caravan was motorized. Unsure. lol. Ours is a pull behind 39' long with three slide outs. Here's a picture of my setup for better reference.

@porwest Camping isn't anything that has ever interested me. I kind of get it though. Back when I lived at the house my ex and I had many fun hours of just drinks outside in the backyard around the fire. We didn't have to go anywhere to do it though.

@NJChicaa I mean, if you think about it, look what we've got. Are we REALLY roughing it? lol.

Sounds exciting. How far away from home will you be?

It's only about an hour and a half or so to get there. We like places that are close and luckily there are plenty of campgrounds within about two hours that we like.

We just call it a travel trailer here. We have different kinds. Motor-homes which are driveable, travel trailers like mine, and 5th wheel trailers that lock into a kingpin. This is my truck and camper for better reference.

Well, the trip is not until the end of April. Today we'd probably be struggling a bit pulling it with winds right now hitting 30+ miles per hour. It really tosses you around when you've got 39 feet of camper behind you that weighs about 8000 pounds. lol

Sounds like fun! You really have a very nice camper. Good idea to preload some clothes instead of packing.
