A sewing kit would be nice.

The nineteen year old next door came over and asked me if I could sew two buttons on her shirt. I asked her if her mother had a needle and thread. She told me her Mother did not even know how to sew.
I asked her if she knew how to sew the buttons on and she did not. So I showed her how to thread the needle and sew the button on. She put both buttons on. She thanked me for showing her how.
So I am going to look on ebay and get her a nice sewing kit.

How sad that her mom did not know how to sew on a button. I even made my sons both learn how to sew on a button. Granted, they didn't want to, but they have both had to do it, so I am glad I did. That would be so nice, to give her a sewing kit, Judy.

My boys can fix a tear or sew on a button, I think that's about it. They just don't want to...but hey, I tried. I supplied them both with a small sewing kit if the need arises to have to fix something.

How nice. Tom bought me a sewing machine and I was going to take sewing lessons as the only sewing machine I ever used was very very old in a cabinet like thing. But I worked all week and no one gave lessons after 5pm or on the weekend..so it sits in our garage now. All the places that used to teach sewing no longer exist here. I can sew a straight line and fill a bobbin etc. but nothing fancy, and lost on patterns. I took Phys Ed in high school instead of taking Home Ec.

What a great idea!! You already gave her the gift of knowing how, and now for the tools.

That should be taught in school, in a class called Basic Life Skills, along with such things as how to change a tire or rewire a lamp.

@jstory07 It should be compulsary for BOYS as well as girls, for one year anyway. And the girls should be encouraged to take shop, too.

That is so cool! I’m afraid I’ve lost that skill. They issued us a sewing kit in boot camp to sew buttons back on our uniforms.

That was nice of you showing her how to do it, instead of you doing it. Now someday she will be able to show her own child how to do it and reflect back on when you showed her how.

My mother did tons of sewing. She made clothes for me when I was little.
