Officers with the Greater New Orleans Expressway Causeway Commission (GNOECC) answered an emergency call for help when a female driver who was driving her auto across the Causeway bridge into Lake Pontchartrain just before Saturday night.
The woman was driving from Mandeville Louisiana to the south shore when she fell into the lake when a strong wind knocked her off of the rail on the bridge when she got out of her auto which was likely not working at the time.
GNOECC Officer Sergeant Bryan Moore arrived at the scene of the accident and he used a spotlight to try to locate the woman who fell into the lake when he heard her scream for help.
Officer Moore hurled a life ring to save the woman from drowning. Then the woman used the life ring to get out of the lake by a basket and get lifted to the bridge deck.
The woman was then taken by an ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for hyperthermia.
The GNOECC officer is a hero indeed for doing his job to save the life of a person who needed to be rescued.

I know what you mean since I used to listen to a local radio station when I used to live in Metairie to hear the reports of the bridge traffic.

That is right since I do remember crossing the bridge on rare occasions and there are police cars on various parts of the bridge.

That must have been a strong wind to blow her off like that, and it was good that she wasn't hurt more from the fall.

The wind in the area where the accident happened can be very strong sometimes when the bridge has to be closed due to weather related storms.
