No wonder the house is so cold

First off, we have 35-40 mph winds blowing out of the west, with gusts up to 75 mph. Also, when we started having good weather I turned the thermostat down. It was so low it was not kicking in. Add to those two things the fact that the window in the office sometimes raises itself and we have a perfect combination for me to be working in the cold. I turned the heat up about three degrees and pushed that window back down. It does make a difference. I cannot do anything about that wind, though.

The wind was so bad today that when I went to the doctor they had one side of the automatic doors blocked off. Which was annoying because you then had to fight the wind to walk around the building to get in the other side.

If you are sick enough to need a doctor you sure do not need that, too. But we cannot stop the wind.

@GardenGerty No worries. This was just a specialist I have to see every three months.

Can you place a rod from the top of the window-frame to the top of the window to stop it sliding up? A cold wind isn't nice at all.

I could do that. I may have some tension curtain rods that would take care of that in a flash. Great idea!

@GardenGerty They suggest similar horizontal rods if you want to leave a side-opening window open just a little bit.

We had several hours of snow when the temperature dropped this afternoon. I would rather that than ice. Right now we are up to a cozy 35 F.

That is what they mean by the wind chill factor. We have nice sunny days now but a very brisk wind is blowing,

My joke is that I don’t need to go to the gym in March because I get so much exercise walking to and from my thermostat to change it from AC to heat then back to AC. Sometimes in the same day.

sounds a pretty brutal combination, of a wild wind and a self-opening window

At certain times of the year it does feel cooler inside than it does out.
