Horse racing is enjoyable

I find horse racing is an enjoyable sport. It is a great spectacle, and as a spectator you can get a great deal of satisfaction from it as the horses thunder past you. Some people don’t like the sport, but I find it fascinating. There are always lots of activities to do for the kids, and for the adults you can watch the horses parade before and after racing. Picking out the winner beforehand gives me a lot of satisfaction. To me, the question is more whether you prefer jumps or the flat.

I don’t live very far from Churchill Downs, where the Kentucky Derby is run, so my annual response to the horse race is to leave town.

I absolutely hate it. The way they are bred leads to broken bones and then they are shot right on the track. They tried to save Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro but he eventually was euthanized. Hate it.

It is a shame how the media portray the sport. The horses lead the best life

Too many horses die jumping the fences, so the flat is better for them. I think the attraction for most people is the gambling associated with it. Nothing more exhilarating than having a few pounds/dollars on the winner at 10 to 1.

@Danielclark691 Oh I think they are at much greater risk on the track over the jumps. There are campaigns all around the world to try and get this banned. We humans care little about the welfare of animals if it affects our enjoyment.

It is done for entertainment purposes. A horse can die in a field, they are not at a greater risk on the track and they live the best lives at home

There are very few jumps races in Australia but flat-racing is very popular and highly regulated.

Yeah, there’s something about the sound of the horses thundering past that just makes it thrilling. I get why some people aren’t into it, but it’s a whole experience—picking a winner, watching the parade, and just soaking in the atmosphere.

I like to watch horse racing too but if I want to watch it live, I will have to go overseas. In my lottery place, they will have live races on the TV whereby the bets can be placed on the booth.

In the UK we aren’t forced to have a pool bet.
