You Better Not Rain on my Brats

So, dad and his wife will have a bit of an extended stay, leaving Monday morning, and so that made me think, okay, we'll have to fulfill another economical and simple dinner night, especially if it turns out the rest of the fam also decides to visit another night. Yesterday we were at my niece's house about an hour away attending my grand nephew's birthday party, and we had hamburgers and hot dogs, and then later in the evening pizzas were ordered. Yesterday's weather was not terrible. A little breezy and cool but tolerable, and we spent most of the day hanging out outside. I thought, if today is similar to yesterday, brats on the grill sounded good with maybe some potato salad and coleslaw on the side. I'd have to get the stuff for it all, though. But this morning it is raining and thundering out, and so far the weather is predicting the rain should continue through around noon. If the brat thing turns out to be what we do, the weathermen better not be wrong and you better not rain on my brats. Incidentally, if the grill does indeed get fired up, this will be the first grill of the season.

Do you have a covered patio or maybe a large umbrella?

@BarBaraPrz Luckily, it stayed dry after our rain in the morning, and I was able to get out there and get my brats.

No for either. We do generally have an umbrella over the deck table. But not over the grill.

We like brats and sometimes I'll fry some and we use them in place of hotdogs. It started storming here yesterday around noon and has been hailing and storming off and on during the night. We have a 70% chance of more rain/storms today. I hope you're enjoying visiting with your family. Good luck with the grilling.

I definitely like brats more than hot dogs, but of course, they both have their place. I also tend to prefer Italian sausages slightly better than brats. As for the grilling and visit, all went well.

@porwest We usually buy Polish sausages to use in place of hotdogs, too. Good! I'm glad the visits went well for you.

@DaddyEvil Polish sausages are good too. In fact, there are few that I don't like.

Sounds like you’re in for a full house for a few more days. It is a good idea to keep meals simple and budget-friendly, especially with the possibility of more family dropping in.

It's definitely more costly when you have company. Although sometimes company also chips in.

I've barbecued in rain, snow, hail...I had a lid though. I hope you get your meal grilled. Sounds so good.

@porwest Awesome! I will admit to getting more of a wuss myself. I'm so over this rain where I live. It's so constant.

Can you pivot and do the brats on the stove?

@porwest Would they be just as good on the stove? Grilling them they probably taste better.

@lovebuglena They'd be good enough on the stove, but I DO think they are much better on the grill personally.

In a pinch, that's what I would have done.

Sounds like a solid plan—brats, potato salad, and coleslaw are always a win. Hopefully, the rain clears up in time because grilling in the rain is no fun.

I hope you are enjoying your time with your dad and his wife. We have not had our first grill out yet we have to get some charcoal when we go shopping then we will be for sure. We love brats we have a special store that has all different kinds and they are delicious.

I guess I could be a man's man and just go out and grill even if I get soaking wet...but...nah! Luckily, the weather held out and we had our brats cooked on the grill.
