A male hiker from Acton Massachusetts called 911 to ask for help after the 52 year old man whose identity was not released was lost off of the Twinway Trail between Mount Guyot and South Twin Mountain on Friday morning.
The hiker was prepared for a two day excursion but he did not bring his snowshoes when he was in deep snow.
The New Hampshire Army National Guard went to the Cannon Mountain Ski Area to send rescuers to rescue the man when he was located safe and sound in the afternoon.
The rescuers did take the hiker to the Gabe River Road that went 6.5 miles and took around five hours from the ski area.
The hiker is extremely grateful that he was rescued by the authorities. I am sure that the hiker will now bring his snowshoes to a hike since it is better to be safe than sorry.

That's great news. I hate hiking, too many get lost.

Most likely it was lack of experience.

Always a bit dangerous to go for such a walk like that on your own, and at his age too.
He should have been more prepared, and perhaps taken a companion with him too. It was good that he was rescued, comparatively unscathed.

You are right that a hiker needs to have a companion.

Glad he made it out safely! That must have been a tough situation, but hopefully, he’s learned his lesson about being fully prepared. The rescuers did an amazing job!

I am in agreement with you that hopefully the hiker did learn his lesson of dressing warmly.
