2 Opposing Headlines

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to get these families living in cars and homeless places to live so that they could restart their life or is it more cost effective to revamp this playground? The opposing headlines in the example above is Denver's logic these days. It makes me sick really. The amount of money this city spends on frivolities is sickening. Now I know some in this arena will say let them starve and die (not many of us would say that) but I know a few will. Regardless of that fact, would you say the money(5 million) would be better spent to help the homeless families? Or not?
Weeks go by as families struggle to connect with the homeless family emergency hotline, then wait for shelter beds, and live in fear of police.

While I do not understand the situation in US, it sounds logical to me that the money should be spent to help the homeless families.

My son volunteers at a church that feeds the homeless most days. They get good meals. I sometimes went and talked to people, asked them their stories, and encouraged them as much as possible. There were more families with children each time. My family was homeless for a while when I was a kid. We had a tent in the desert. I never forgot that experience.

I know. I can’t begin to tell you how much money our local government has spent on PAINTING BICYCLE NOTIFICATIONS on neighborhood streets…money that could easily have been spent on the homeless.

@Dreamerby — they have markers on the road showing that bicycles are permitted. Why they do that, I’ll never know. Huge waste of money.

The government of the US and most states don't care about the homeless in the US as long as they can't be seen if foreign dignitaries visit. I don't understand the logic that has us sending money to other countries to help their homeless while our homeless are just.... homeless.

@RebeccasFarm Every so often, the police do homeless sweeps, turn them out into the snow, throw their possessions and makeshift shelters out, and then are proud of themselves for doing it.

@akalinus Before we found out Medicaid would pay Pretty for helping me when I can't see, we thought we'd have to move out of this house and live in our car. We were scared! Our landlady asked if we'd talked with Medicaid about my problems so Pretty called them and they referred her to an agency here in Missouri called Freedom Care. Freedom Care is an organization that pays somebody of your choice to help you with household things any person who is disabled can't handle by themselves. They don't pay a lot but it's enough to pay our rent, electric and gas bills here. (Medicaid provides the money that Freedom Care uses to pay somebody like Pretty.)

I have family members who are homeless and it hurts my heart to know so many people are homeless nationwide. Police hassle them and no one wants to help. They have to pay absorbitant rates to move into an apartment and can't deal with increasing rent.

Life is so screwy nowadays. I quit listening to the local news several years ago but still get little tidbits in a local newsletter. I hate it! I wish you could move to a better state but where would that be?
