Hey everyone, just wanted to share some great news—I’m officially retired! I took early retirement, and honestly, I couldn’t be happier with my decision. No second thoughts, no regrets—just pure excitement for what’s ahead.
What makes it even better is that my wife, who’s been a dedicated teacher for years, has also decided to retire. So now, we’re both stepping into this new chapter together!
We already have some plans lined up—first, visiting some relatives in the US in the coming months, then a quick trip to Singapore after that. It’s been a while since we traveled for leisure, so we’re really looking forward to just relaxing and enjoying ourselves.
Retirement doesn’t feel like an end at all; it’s more like a fresh start. No more work stress, just more time to do the things we love. Anyone here who’s already retired? How’s life been treating you? Would love to hear your experiences! ??

After dedicating 25 years to my career, I truly believe I’ve earned the chance to step back, take a well-deserved break, and just enjoy life. Work has been a big part of my journey, but now it’s time to shift gears and focus on myself, my family, and the things I’ve always wanted to do.
Retiring while I’m still physically fit gives me the opportunity to fully embrace this new chapter—whether it’s traveling, spending quality time with loved ones, or simply enjoying the little things in life without the pressure of work. Life is short, and I want to make the most of it while I have the energy and freedom to do so.
Here’s to new adventures, relaxation, and making the most of every moment!

That’s so true—this is a brand-new chapter, completely different from the ones before. I’ll admit, there are moments of hesitation, which I think is natural when stepping into something unfamiliar. But despite that, I’m still looking forward to it with an open heart, embracing whatever comes next.
This is a fresh start, a chance to live life on my own terms without the demands of work. I can only hope for the best and make the most of this new journey, enjoying each day as it comes. It’s a path I’ll follow until the end, and I’m ready to see where it takes me!

That is exactly what I am looking forward to—this new chapter, this new journey that lies ahead. It may feel unfamiliar and even a little daunting at times, but I believe that every change comes with its own hidden blessings. This is a chance for me to explore a different side of life, one that isn’t bound by routines and deadlines. It may be a strange new world, but I know that if I look closely, I will find the light, the joy, and the freedom that comes with embracing it fully.

I wrote this poemn when my husband was about to retire years ago
Retirement Bliss Not Blues
When retirement age draws near,
There lurks an unknown fear,
Of being a nobody…….
Once a somebody!!
How faulty this thinking is,
When life gets a fresh lease,
To do what one really wants,
With none to boss with shouts and taunts.
Doing things at a tarried pace,
No more to rush or race,
Stopping by to smell the flowers,
Sitting by the sea for hours.
Relaxing in ones favourite chair,
With no tension, not a care,
Doing what one wants to do,
With hobbies revived and interests too.
Plenty of time to cheer the weary,
Share it with the said and dreary,
The world needs these mature minds,
Among them are some rare finds.
Cheer up all you about to retire,
The world as you think is not on fire,
Move forward with a healthy mind,
And happiness, you are sure to find.

Oh wow, that is such a beautiful poem you wrote for your husband! I truly appreciate the emotions behind it, and in many ways, I can relate. This new phase of life may feel unfamiliar and a bit unsettling at times, but it’s a different world—one that I know I need to embrace with gratitude and joy. Change isn’t always easy, but seeing it as an opportunity rather than a challenge makes all the difference.

@allknowing That’s true! Sometimes, I catch myself overthinking and worrying about what’s ahead, but I know that’s just part of the process. You’re absolutely right—I just need to take things one step at a time, keep a positive mindset, and embrace this new chapter with gratitude and happiness.

Hearing that feels like a compliment to us. I won’t deny that there were moments of hesitation along the way. In fact, I spent the entire past year carefully weighing my options, trying to figure out what would be best for me. After much thought and consideration, I finally came to the conclusion that taking early retirement was the right path.
Of course, there’s always some uncertainty in life, and stepping away from something I’ve known for 25 years does bring a mix of emotions. But at this point, I felt it was time to make the decision and take this step. After dedicating so many years to the company, I realized that I needed to carve out space for myself—to rest, recharge, and enjoy life beyond work.
My wife went through a similar journey in her career. Teaching has been her passion for so long, but over time, the physical demands of the job started taking a toll on her. She began feeling that same weight—the exhaustion of the daily grind—and eventually came to the decision that it was time to step away as well.
So here we are, both closing the door on our working years and stepping into a new phase of life. It’s a big transition, but we’re embracing it with open hearts, looking forward to whatever comes next.

@JudyEv, I appreciate the warning, but I’ll be with family as we’re celebrating my aunt’s birthday. My cousins have planned a mini-reunion since she is the last living sibling on my father’s side, and we want to cheer her up on her special day. It’s a meaningful gathering for us, and I’m sure we’ll be well taken care of while we’re there. Looking forward to spending quality time with everyone!

@rsa101 Vince had committed to retire when the global recession hit (2008/9) but in the end it didn't matter too much. We've enjoyed the time and it's all fine. As I said, enjoy the time but please be careful in the USA. I wouldn't really like to be visiting there but if you have family/friends there I'm sure you'll be fine.

That’s something I’m really looking forward to as well. I already have a few plans lined up for the coming months, which will keep me busy and excited for a while. However, beyond that, I’ll need to figure out how to make the most of all the free time I’ll have at my disposal. It’s a new phase of life, and while the idea of so much unstructured time feels a bit unfamiliar, I see it as an opportunity to explore new interests, relax, and truly enjoy life at my own pace.

I believe the right time will come naturally when you’re ready for it. If you’re at a stage in life where building your career and earning money is a priority, then focus on that and save as much as you can—it will be invaluable when you reach this phase of life. Be patient and trust the process. One day, you’ll find yourself at this point too, and when that time comes, you’ll know it’s the right moment to embrace a new chapter.!

Definitely looking forward to this new chapter in life! I won’t deny that there are moments of anxiety here and there, but I guess that’s just part of the transition—it’s completely normal. After all, stepping away from something that’s been part of my daily routine for so long is a big change.
But more than anything, I’m choosing to focus on the excitement of what’s ahead. Work is now a thing of the past, and my future is all about embracing and enjoying the time I have left—making the most of every moment, doing the things I love, and simply living life at my own pace. No more deadlines, no more work stress—just the freedom to appreciate life in a way I never truly could before. Here’s to whatever comes next!

@DaddyEvil I guess it’s a gradual process, and I’m taking it one step at a time. Little by little, I’ll get used to this new way of life—after all, it’s a fresh chapter, and every change takes some adjusting. The old phase has ended, and now it’s time to embrace what’s ahead with an open mind and a positive spirit.
I’m looking forward to discovering new routines, finding new joys, and making the most of this next adventure. Change can be exciting, and I’m ready to take it all in!

Don't worry! Take this opportunity to improve yourself, earn, and save some money along the way. If you find ways to invest and increase your earnings, even better! By the time you retire, you'll be financially stable and well-prepared. Keep pushing forward and make the most of every chance that comes your way. You've got this!

I retired at 53 as well, so we’re in a similar situation. It feels a bit odd knowing the usual 15-30 payday is gone, but I have my retirement fund to make good use of. I’ll figure things out along the way and find new ways to enjoy this next chapter. Change is always an adjustment, but I’m looking forward to what’s ahead!

It’s definitely a transition, and since I’m still in the process of turning over my responsibilities to my replacement, the routine of work hasn’t completely left me yet. There are still tasks to wrap up, and for now, I still feel a part of it. But I know that in just a couple more months, I’ll finally step into full retirement, and that’s when it will truly sink in. I’m looking forward to that moment when I can finally say I’m completely free from work obligations and fully embrace this new chapter.
My wife is also reaching a significant milestone—tomorrow marks her official last day as a teacher, and her school is holding a recognition day in her honor. It’s a wonderful way to acknowledge all the years of dedication she has poured into her profession. We’ve been invited to join the ceremony, and I think it’s a fitting way to close this chapter of her career. It’s not just about leaving work—it’s about celebrating everything she has accomplished.
For both of us, this is a time of transition, reflection, and excitement for what’s ahead. Retirement isn’t just an ending—it’s the beginning of something new, and I’m looking forward to making the most of it.

I’m currently working as a consultant while the transition at work is still ongoing. The good thing is that I no longer have to report to the office daily, which is a huge relief. My main focus now is training my replacement and ensuring that all responsibilities are properly handed over. While it still feels like work, the load is definitely lighter than before, and I can already feel the shift toward retirement.
By May, though, I’ve already informed them that I won’t be available anymore. I have plans to travel to the US to spend time with my relatives and my sister. It’s something I’m really looking forward to, as we’ve also scheduled visits to different places while we’re there. It’ll be a great opportunity to unwind and enjoy some quality time with family.
The trip is just several weeks away now, and I can feel the excitement building. Knowing that this journey is just around the corner makes me even more eager to finally step into this new phase of life and embrace the freedom that comes with it.

@rsa101 I am also looking forward to my retirement next year, and I hope I can spend time visiting friends and relatives in Luzon. Though there is plan to hire me as consultant which I may consider, at least there is not much pressure anymore. You're right retirement is not an ending but a new lifestyle to embrace and of course enjoying the fruits of what you have worked for over the years.

Being young and full of energy is the perfect time to focus on building your career and chasing your dreams. This stage of life is all about growth, ambition, and making things happen, and it’s exciting to see where your journey will take you.
For me, that chapter has already passed. I’ve dedicated years to my career, and now my focus has shifted. It’s no longer about climbing the ladder but about embracing the lighter, more fulfilling side of life—taking time for myself, enjoying the moments, and appreciating the freedom that comes with this new phase.
Every stage in life has its purpose, and right now, yours is to go after your aspirations with passion. One day you’ll also reach a point where you can slow down and savor the rewards of your hard work. Keep pushing forward—you’re building something great for your future!
