Same old problems getting prescriptions again

So, so frustrating. A few months back, I think I wrote about truly struggling to get my son's prescriptions filled. Meds were not coming in to the pharmacies to be distributed, and the pharmacists had to call all over the area (and sometimes really far) to try to find what people needed. The last week, it's been the same thing, with one exception. No one else has the two meds he needs the most, either. Friday, I called his primary care doctor to ask what I should do, as he just wasn't well at all. He told me he would meet us at the ER, and somehow he was able to find one of the two meds to cover two days. That took us to Sunday...no meds. Monday...no meds. The pharmacy we use the most, they were tearing their hair out trying to find several different meds for people. They didn't call or text to say anything came in for the son, so I went over there. And waited...and waited...while I was there, they got a small medicine delivery, and the one he needed the most was in there!! I wanted to do CARTWHEELS!!! But since I haven't attempted that in years, I settled for a big, happy, YES!! One down, one to go.

You need your Prozac-taking ex-postal employee buddy named Karen to come and see the manager? Seriously…is there a way it can be mail ordered to you, or at the least shipment delivered to the doctor so you can pick it up? I worry about him going days without his medicine.

@MarieCoyle — duh, what was I thinking…post office. Thankfully, the VA will frequently use FedEx for my meds, so I usually get mine.

We considered it. But honestly, our PO service here just...well, it sucks. It takes forever. Packages of any type get delivered to the wrong boxes (we all have a locked mailbox here, and we all constantly get each other's mail)...OR, we never get anything at all, when it says it's been delivered. They mark it as delivered, and if we complain we didn't get it, it's just too bad. I fear any meds in the mail would suffer some sort of fate and never arrive, so unless the post office actually ever starts functioning like a post office again, I will just pick up the meds! Good idea in theory, but it just won't work here.

@FourWalls What the post office has become is just shameful. And so frustrating.

That's just not right. I don't have any problem with Medical Mutual and the Giant Eagle Pharmacy.

@MarieCoyle That's so bad that they don't have meds when you need them.

@LindaOHio It was this way for awhile last year, too. We don’t want to have to drive endless miles to pick them up, either. Hopefully this is just a quirk, but the pharmacist told me they are worried if the tariffs kick in next week, what effects that will have on availability of many medications. Ugh.

We do not have Medical Mutual or Giant Eagle Pharmacy. It isn't an insurance issue, it's an availability problem. I would prefer to go to a ''local'' and/or private pharmacy, but here we basically just have the big chains, and the big stores that have a pharmacy in them, that's it.

Yay, I am glad that he at least got one of the two he needed the most! That is so annoying!

A person just doesn't realize how convenient something really is until you no longer have it. So frustrating!

Yeah, I had a similar problem. My grandson's meds were not available at the pharmacy. We have been going to this pharmacy for as long as I can remember and this is the first we have had any problem. We had to try two other places before finding one that had the med. I wonder what is going on. I'm glad you were finally able to get it.

It is my understanding that if the tariffs go through, some medications will be very hard to obtain.

It's hard to think about. Some people have to have their medications, or they will not survive. Thank you, Judy.

It IS stressful. I am trying to get the stress level around here to lessen, not multiply, LOL!

The pharmacy we try to use the most often--they told me that they are worried if certain tariffs take place, it will make availability of some medications very difficult. And there isn't anything we can really do about that, unfortunately.

Bless your heart! I know that's so frustrating, especially with something so critical. Praying for both of you.
