We had an audience yesterday

The photo our friend’s horse taking an interest in our collecting wood yesterday although something else has taken her interest at this point. Our friend has five horses. I mentioned last post that she lost her husband in April. Not too long after, a bushfire burnt right up to her fence-line. With a couple of friends she stayed and defended her place but it’s scary to see the blackened trees and paddocks so close to the house. This is the third time her home has been threatened with bushfires. If she has enough notice, she is able to move the horses right away from the area but last time she had little warning.

That must be so nerve wracking. Keeping herself and the horses safe is the highest priority

She has one paddock that she tries to keep green but mown down. She puts all the horses in there if there is any danger from fires. She also has six or eight sheep.

It must have been horrific as you can see all the burnt stuff right up to her boundary.

@JudyEv For sure! We are seeing a lot of land cleared here for the solar farms. It's sad that all the forest area is being clear.

Each year the fires seem to be bigger and stronger. It's very worrying.

Mostly she has time to move them well out of the way but the last fire came on very sudden.

The Dangers of Bushfires I have heard about bushfires; they are dangerous. People lose everything, including their lives in some cases. I'm glad to hear that your friend and the horses are safe.

Thanks. We have a lot of bushfires in Australia and they certainly do a lot of damage. I know you have a lot in America too.

What beautiful horses! It is scary to see those burn marks. It’s been over eight years since the Gatlinburg fire and I still see the scars from the fire every time I go there. I’m thankful she has survived the wildfires with her property intact.

She has had three come very close in the last few years. She has a fire plan and does what she can to make the place safe.

It would break her heart I think if she lost them in a fire.

Two friends stayed with her and they put out spot fires (from dropping embers) through the night.

She has five horses but, if she left, she could only take two. She did have a quite bare paddock to put them in but luckily she was able to stay.
