How is this possible?

So, I drank some milk earlier this morning, and it was fine. This was maybe 2 hours ago. I took a sip before I put it in coffee, and it was definitely going bad. I mean the milk was in the fridge. How could have bacteria gotten activated that fast? I really don't get it. I could see if it was like 90 degrees in here, and the milk was sitting out but it is certainly no more than 63. It was cold last night, Besides this was in the fridge. I need a scientist to explain this one.

I think people wrongfully assume that if something is in a cold refrigerator that bacteria can't thrive or grow. It can, but refrigeration just slows down the process a little. That's why things can still go bad even in the fridge. But you are right, it does seem that when milk starts to go bad, it does so at an alarming speed.

Never had it happen that fast..oh well! Of course all things fridge or not aren't good forever which is why things have an expiration date

@snowy22315 Except Twinkies. I’m pretty sure they have a thousand year lifespan before they expire! Lol

I don't have an answer but I guess at some point it has to 'turn', as my mother used to say. I guess you just got lucky - or unlucky - to catch it on its way out.

That does sound strange but guess you caught it just at the right time when you first used it. You need Bill Nye the science guy!!

Maybe you bought it from a bad batch which was probably about to go bad sooner..

This particular brand is sold by Dollar General and I usually just buy it in an emergency. It doesn't really tend to last as long as other brands. I just tasted it again, it doesn't seem too bad, but I think I will make today the last day I use it. I can say for certain it WILL be bad tomorrow. Its almost gone anyway. I hate to waste milk.
