In looking at the top five of the songs that are now 70 years old, I see a lot of things that were also on the 100 favorites lists. In fact, all five of the top five were on those two lists. A little spoiler: three country, two pop. This is country (so Linda? NO!!!!!). Here’s the next 1955 song. #5: Whose Shoulder Will You Cry On - Kitty Wells Yeah, she’s back. The Queen of Country Music. She co-wrote this song, another one of those “hey, the man is doing the cheating” songs that got her into trouble with radio DJs with her signature song, “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels.” Earlier in the countdown I featured Charline Arthur, who defied what “the men” told her that a “proper female singer” should be. They killed her career. Kitty Wells never did the Wanda Jackson suggestive songs (Jackson’s “Fujiyama Mama” was banned by a lot of stations) or the Arthur dancing, but she was a trailblazer for women in country music. And, unlike others, she COULDN’T be stopped. Whose Shoulder Will You Cry On Written by Kitty Wells and Billy Wallace Recorded by Kitty Wells Released as a single, 1955 I don’t trust you no more:

I like her well enough. Just not a big fan of most country music.

I’m a huge fan of country music, as you know, but I can only take her in metered amounts.

@FourWalls I may have told you that I am crazy for Ronnie Milsap and Glenn Campbell.

@Tampa_girl7 — oh, yes! One of Milsap’s great underrated songs, for me, is the one called “I Hate You.” You have to be very careful how you use the title of that song in a sentence!

Old school country there. People will never understand how that music came to be. Life was not so easy people. You would write and sing like that too if you seen the world back in the day. Trump says soon enough my friends, This is actually one of Mike Ness's favorite musicians. I always go, he gets it from you guys when people say he sounds so sad and miserable in a more punk sounding way.

@FourWalls We all learn it from somewhere, how do we make it better is what most never seem to ask? They just go that guy or girl is a hindrance on society. Are they or are they just showing what we need to work on? Why everyone is miserable is because people choose to slander them than fix the problem. That is why Morrissey was miserable too.

@crossbones27 — I’m watching the Cardinals’ opener, and I’m NOT miserable. (Of course, there are still three outs…)

They had to learn it from someone, and Morrissey was too miserable.

A very nice song sung by Kitty Wells who was famous before my time.

Most of her biggest success was before my time as well, but I remember seeing her and hearing her on the Grand Ole Opry.

How interesting, I was just commenting with someone and said no more pets for me. Then I said maybe a gorilla with soft brown eyes, a hand I can hold, and a shoulder to lean on

I know, I’m content to feed the neighborhood strays. No more pets for me, either.
