Well, That Was Odd

Perhaps it is possible that one will sometimes encounter a relative or a friend just visiting who will answer a knock on the door, but 9 times out of 10 I am going to just go out on a limb here and suggest that the person generally answering a door will be someone who lives there.
Thus, it was odd that when a knock came at my door at 830 this morning, the man standing there asked me, "Do you live here?" Especially considering I was obviously still in my pajamas with bed head when I answered, I'd definitely at least spent the night.
After the fact, I thought, man, that would have been a superb opportunity to play with him and ask him back, "Why? Is this your house?" But it was a missed opportunity. I wasn't as quick on my feet in the moment as I usually can be. But it would have been fun to see his reaction.

@TheHorse lol. Actually, it was a guy from a roofing company. They were putting on a roof nearby and I guess were engaged in a bit of prospecting for more work. But I figured I would prolong the suspense. I already purposely left out the "who" part in my post. lol

What did the person want? Would have been interesting to see his reaction/reply had you asked him, “Why? Is this your house?”.

Had I been wittier in the moment, that response would have most assuredly left him a bit confused, and then immediately aware of the awkwardness of his question. lol.
He was just a guy from a roofing company who was putting on a roof nearby and they were prospecting for more work.
Not only do I live here, I do not need a roof, so this is a really bad salesman. I wish him all the best.

@porwest It’s a weird question. Why would you ask “Do you live here?” when someone opens the door unless maybe you’re in some very rich neighborhood where houses have a butler?

I have to admit that was very strange.

I definitely live here. I wish you had thought to play with him a bit.

That would have been hilarious if you could have turned the tides on him! But my question is, why was he knocking on your door so early in the morning asking if you lived there? Why was he being nosy?

I would not have thought kindly of a solicitor at 8:30 in the morning.
