Yay! That lady deserves it! I am so glad the nice woman thought to do something so kind. The elderly woman won’t have to live in a cheap dump due to such generosity.

Upcoming retirement at 81? I’m guessing she is really working at that age because she wants to. I bet she doesn’t last a year.

Betty needs the money and I guess she enjoys her work as a waitress even though it could be part time.

@Orson_Kart Most likely working is what keeps Betty going.

That kind of money wouldn't go very far here, I hope that she can stretch it.

It is a lovely thing to do. Such a huge sum of money is not necessary, but it is a lovely gesture for everyone retiring

Wow! I'm so glad Betty will be able to retire. I hate hearing about anyone over retirement age that can't afford to quit working.

It is sad but true that many persons have to work since their social security checks are small.

Not life changing money, but if one is 81, $250,000 could certainly go a long way. Normally, I would say not planning for retirement is bad behavior that deserves no reward, but I will let this one slide. I hope she is able to use the money and enjoy what she has left of life.
