This year is a special birthday for me. I guess at this age, they’re all special.
However, the government sent me a special card (Medicare) for my special birthday. So to celebrate, let’s also look at songs that, like me, are turning 65 this year.
You know the drill: alphabetical for 20 days, and the top ten close out the year.
For your teaser, here’s one that’ll make you chuckle. Dallas Frazier, a Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer (and he’ll probably be put into the Country Music Hall of Fame once he becomes eligible [people who are not on the list become ineligible for three years after they die]), wrote this silly song. Gary S. Paxton was the only real member of the group who performed it, the “Hollywood Argyles.” It was a novelty song based on the comic strip. Ironically, both Frazier and Paxton later became gospel performers.

Yeah, all the Itis brothers (Arthur Itis, Burce Itis, Tendon Itis, etc.) are throwing a party. I’m opting not to go.

There was a comic strip by the same name, created by V. T. Hamlin, which began in 1932.

Usually songs inspired by comic strips are silly (like “Snoopy Vs. the Red Baron”).
